It occurred to me partway through the first section of this part the reason behind what I suspected Gaila was doing but I am STILL INTRIGUED. Soooo yes. 'Tis good!

Anyway, favorite bits--
THIS:
“How do you feel about meat loaf?”

“I love it with a passion that cannot be contained,” he said seriously.

AND THIS:
Hikaru Sulu was exhausted. He’d spent all day at the drive-in site making sure that everything went smoothly, that Jim Kirk didn’t cause any delays, and that Spock understood just why they couldn’t physically create some of his designs due to the constrictions of gravity and the laws of physics.

ALSO:
“I’m a guy,” he said. “I’m pretty much always in the mood for meatloaf.” He frowned. “And I honestly didn’t mean for that to sound the way it did. I apologize.”

Oh man, just-- so many lulz~ :D And I loved the irony of someone other than Scotty having to deal with the laws of physics and the men who want to change them.

And then THIS happened and *I* spontaneously combusted:
she said calmly as though his fingers weren’t still caressing strands of her hair and she wasn’t spontaneously combusting internally

Also, man, the scene between Gaila and Scotty just tugged my heartstrings. (There may have been tears. >.>)

Which made me enjoy THIS all the more:
“I think mom and dad are having a fight,” Sulu whispered to Chekov.

“Yes,” Chekov whispered back. “Is not very nice.”
