I know what you mean. I didn't want to miss out on Joanna, but at the time I kept seeing all these stories about his ex being awful and I wondered, well, what if she wasn't awful and they grew apart? He'd still want to leave.

I still have a hard time believing Bones would go so far. In the original series he was much older when he joined the Enterprise, so I could believe him leaving when his daughter was more grownup.
