Didn't get the job. My references were 'glowing' but they went with someone who had more of a biology background which was not what they advertised for.
*massive hugs* I'm sorry hon - I hate the way that happens :(
Oh well. Just means you have more time to write!
BTW, have you thought about writing short stories to sub to online mags/anthologies maybe? There are quite a few sci-fi/fantasy ones I could link you too, and most of the ones I have pay the "professional" rate of at least 5cents a word. It doesn't sound like much, but considering most request a word count between 2-6k, that would get you $100-300 a story minimum if you got selected. That would pay a bill or two! It does take a while to hear back from some of the places though, and most don't want simultaneous submissions. But if you had like 4-5 stories on submission, you would save time and get to rotate stuff for consideration at different places.
There are also places like BookRiot.org http://bookriot.com/join-us/ that will pay for book related blogs/articles. I don't know how much they pay, but they do apparently offer compensation.
And added bonus, both of the above options would eventually count as publishing credits in a query to agents/editors.
You could also maybe see about Freelance editing/writing too?
Who knows - maybe the is the universe letting you know that it's time for you to try writing instead of a day job if yall can swing it. Either way, I believe in ya - something will work out. *hugs*
I'm sorry, dude. Even if it isn't a popularity contest, it kinda feels like one and that is no fun at all. I'm sorry it didn't happen this time. They won't know what they're missing.

It's Karl Urban day if that helps at all.
