I may have been rushing it a bit.

I'm back at work. And I'm a little exhausted. Even though I rested quite a bit yesterday, I'm feeling some major bone-deep weariness. Partly due to all the personal stuff I've been going through, partly because the company/organization I work for has decided to completely change it's modus operandi. And not tell their employees about it, except in tones of 'Why didn't you know this already? Aren't you mind-readers?' and 'Oh, you thought we were here to help people? Ahahaha, no. We trawl the internets for companies' information now.' Yeah.

Can I please have a do-over? I'd like it to begin last June, I think. June 6th. Yeah, that would be a great date to try this all over again.

In other news, I watched two movies yesterday: Babylon AD and Jonah Hex. Spoilers, ahoy!

Well. I liked the premise of Babylon AD. I'm a sucker for semi-post-apocalyptic films and really, it's not like I was expecting great things from it. (Vin Diesel is generally enough for me) BUT!

1. There is no killing of Michelle Yeoh! EVER! Especially, no killing of Michelle Yeoh in a stupid, stupid way that does not advance the plot and then NEVER MENTIONS HER AGAIN AFTER SHE PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE. Do. NOT. DO IT.

2. WTF with the ending? This was seriously sent through the choppiest of editing. I mean, WHAT? Wow.

Now, Jonah Hex.

Dear Movie people,

You have a cast of not-untalented actors. (re: Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Aidan Quinn, Gob from Arrested Development and Wes Bentley. Actually, in writing this list: WHERE THE HECK ARE THE WOMEN? Megan Fox kind of counts.)

Why did you feed them the scenery? I mean, really.

At least John Malkovich and Michael Fassbender looked like they were having fun. Fassy does crazy-Irish wonderfully well.

Anyway. The premise and concepts behind the film are actually quite fun. I love a gothic western, with hints of animation and fun imagery. But, why so much suck? You've got the ingredients! Why can't you make it work?

Sigh.

Movie industry, if you wish for me to continue to watch films, you really must improve.

Sincerely,
seren

PS. More Michael Fassbender is never a bad thing. Just FYI.

Why do I even bother watching movies anymore?

Pride and Prejudice tonight. Maybe. If I don't collapse the second I walk through the door.

So TIRED.

It was so, so bad. I mean, I've certainly seen worse. But, it could have been so much better. Out of curiosity, what's your fave Fassbender film? I've got the house to myself and so I'm on a movie-watching spree.

I am very iffy on most of Fassbender's oeuvre because it's either really shitty horror films, terrible TV movies (like that awful Sherlock Holmes mystery that managed to have TWO Fassbenders, but still sucked), and brutal dramas that I can only watch once and leave me traumatized for days after.

Inglourious Basterds is the only film of his I've enjoyed enough to watch more than once, but he's not in it as much as I would like. Hunger was beautiful and bleak and is his best work, I think, but it really does do a number on your soul. Centurion is also gory and brutal, but emotionally and politically complex (for an action movie), and Michael speaks Gaelic and rides horses and runs around in a Roman tunic a lot, so there is that. 300 is highly stylized violence with a lot of unpleasant misogyny and homophobia (hello, Frank Miller's prejudices), but Michael is half-naked and wields a sword quite nicely, and it's mindless enough that you can watch it without having to think about it.

Oh, yes. I did enjoy the lunging and ahem thrusting in 300. Centurion was pretty enjoyable as well. Another one I wish they'd done more with somehow. I think this is the year for re-watchable Fassbender films.

And oh god that Sherlock movie was dreadful. I saw that when it came out, and just, ugh. Gross.

Hex and the Devil's Whore are quite entertaining, though.

Oh, Hex was ridiculous but fun. I think anything that involves Fassbender in eyeliner and making out with hot women is worth watching. :D

I think Wedding Belles is supposed to be pretty good as well, and it has Michael doing a Scottish brogue. It's a dark comedy, though, so I expect everyone to be unhappy and sarcastic.

Wedding Belles was good! The only problem is that Michael's in it for about five minutes, tops. He's pretty and does a lovely accent, but very underused. But, as a film by itself, I thought it was good. Dark, but done well enough that it's not just bleak and depressing with a thin frosting of sarcasm.

The Scottish is pretty thick, though, so there were definitely parts where I was utterly lost. :D
