Oh. THIS.

I love writing tips. I love Elmore Leonard, Neil Gaiman, Philip Pullman and Jeanette Winterson.

Therefore, THIS is pretty awesome.

My Personal Faves:

My most important rule is one that sums up the 10: if it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.

Do not place a photograph of your favourite author on your desk, especially if the author is one of the famous ones who committed suicide.

Try to be accurate about stuff.

Write.

Write a book you'd like to read. If you wouldn't read it, why would anybody else? Don't write for a perceived audience or market. It may well have vanished by the time your book's ready.

Never stop when you are stuck. You may not be able to solve the problem, but turn aside and write something else. Do not stop altogether.

Write a book you'd like to read is one of my beliefs. The writer is the first reader. You have to be interested in the story you're writing as a reader, not merely as a writer.

So many writers kill themselves or suffer from depression, it's kind of find a picture of one that isn't somewhat depressing.

I'm a big supporter of the 'write what you want to read' train of thought. I've done the school thing and read assigned literature and took literary criticism and dissected novels, etc.

Now, I just want to read something that I enjoy for the simple reason that it makes me laugh or makes me want to know who dun it. Therefore, why would I write something I wouldn't want to read myself? It makes the process so much more fun and writing becomes this great thing I do, and not a job.

And yes, about the writers. To be honest, the only photo I have on my desk is one of my dog, Maggie. 'Cause she's never critical and always likes me no matter what I write. ;D

Some of the rules on those lists were delightful. Some made me roll my eyes and want to smack whoever wrote them :/

Oh, I know! The one about not having children being key to writing made me roll my eyes.

I liked the ones that were actually helpful and told me something new.

That is pretty awesome! Some of them are really common sense, but others are just hilarious.

And it find it especially funny that half the writers contradict each other!

Oh, I know! I like how the only thing they seem to be able to agree on is the fact that you have to write. :D

And I thought I had Writer's A.D.D.

So bouncing back and forth between 14 novels is...normal?

Apparently! And thank goodness for that! You would not believe the sheer amount of beginnings I've got in my documents.
