In which Seren flails over the new Star Trek film

I finally saw it. I liked it. I was not sure I was going to, but I really, really did. I generally have a problem with JJ Abrams but he proved me wonderfully wrong.

What's more, is my die-hard, very difficult to please, Trekkie husband loved it too. Which is very good as well. Although he is currently peppering his speech with all the Vulcan platitudes and language he knows. I've decided to just humor him for the moment.

I now have a scary little plot bunny bouncing in my head in regards to a throwaway line McCoy makes.

My ex-wife got the planet in the divorce. I have nothing left except my bones. Seriously, who'd divorce McCoy? What's that all about? I really want to write her and have some dialogue already written. Is the potential for Mary-Sue too big? Oh heck. I'm probably going to write it anyway. If any of ya'll think I shouldn't, feel free to talk me out of it.

According to Start Trek book canon, McCoy has a daughter who's also a doctor. Check out "Crisis on Centaurus" by Brad Ferguson for more details (although there isn't much mentioned about the ex-wife.) It has some great back story on Kirk & McCoy as well as star turns by Uhura and Spock, and a really interesting plot line. I have no idea how well it fits in with Abrams' movie canon, though!

Oh thank you for the book rec! I've been on a binge and just finished Prime Directive and started Doctor's Orders. I'm very interested in Bones' backstory and will definitely track this one down.

Abram's has sort of left things fairly wide open, but I won't say anything more to spoil it.
