My Fake TV Show - Take Two - The Aching City

This is Show #2 based on actor/actress prompts by the utterly fabulous [livejournal.com profile] halfpenny_press.

The Aching City

The city moans, it lunges up right from the ground
The seething earth, it opens up and spits us out
This vicious child, nature never wanted us
This vicious child, a cancer burning black into its heart
~Above and Below - The Bravery

At 9:37 pm, the 15th of March 2011, Judge Colm Baden was found dead in his home office. Initial cause of death: self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

One hour later, evidence appears on the desks of the Chief of Police and the New York District Attorney outlining several of Judge Baden’s convictions as being completely and totally wrong.

Has the judge been covering for someone or some organization over the years? Was his death suicide or murder?

Is it possible that his devoted wife and son knew nothing about his dealings with a criminal organization that stretches much further than anyone could have supposed?

Alexandra Baden (Stockard Channing) is the late wide of Judge Baden. A well-respected law professor at NYU, she is appalled at what her husband has done, and cannot reconcile his actions with the man she has loved since she was twenty years old when she met him during her year at Oxford. Still, she will hold her head high and will find out what caused her husband to fall so far. Even if it means she loses friends and colleagues along the way. Alex is finally realizing just how much strength she has, and she'll be damned if this destroys her and her son.

Kyle Baden (Cillian Murphy) is the only child of Judge Baden and having recently returned from a few years away in Ireland is finally making his own name at a small law firm that handles domestic abuse cases solely on a pro-bono basis. He cannot believe that his father, the man he's looked up to all his life, would have intentionally abused the law that he so rigorously admired. Kyle's priority now is his mother and her safety. He is also wary of the police involvement and will not be left out of the investigation, even if that means doing things on his own.

Daniel "Danny" Lance (Gary Sinise) is the current Chief of Police for New York City. He's proud of his accomplishments and has always believed in the system he works to protect every day. He's been a friend of the Baden family for years and the judge's death hits him hard. What hits him harder is the request from the even higher-ups to look into every case Judge Baden presided over in the last five years and determine just what the hell was going on. In doing so, Danny is going to have to ignore his gut for the first time in his life and treat one of his closest friends as a criminal and he's going to ignore every instinct in his body yelling at him to take care of Alex. Because if this is as big as he thinks it might be? No one is going to come out clean.

Baye Dixon (Daniel Dae Kim) is one of New York's best detectives. He's perceptive, subtle and tenacious and has always been able to see all sides of a story. He and his partner have just been assigned to the Baden case and while a part of him hates to believe how far down a man will go, he's more than aware of how tempting the darkness can be. After all, isn't that what happened to his brother?

Meghan Porter (Rachel McAdams) has been a detective with the NYPD for four years. Partnered with Dixon from the outset, she believes in what she does and works to protect people who cannot protect themselves. From a family of cops, she knows all about the avenues of deception and temptation that can come to a person in power. But, something about this case feels different, feels even more wrong than it looks. The fact that the son of the deceased won't leave the investigation to the professionals just makes things even more difficult. Because, if Kyle was as close as he says he was to his father, surely he had to know what his father was doing?

Amanda Fletcher (Rachel Weisz) was Judge Baden's clerk. She's been with him for years, ever since she was fresh out of law school. According to her, she had no idea that his rulings weren't accurate and precise. The police think she must have had some insight, but she knows in her heart that the judge simply wasn't capable of such deception. And she's going to prove it. With or without the police's permission. She owes so very much to the judge...

Marcus Rider (Taye Diggs) is the Assistant District Attorney and has got his hands full with the Baden case. He'd always respected the man and now Marcus has got to go digging into matters he's sure will do nothing more than suck him in. He's been waiting for his chance to prove himself, but is this case the best way? The last thing he needs is more enemies.

Cue intrigue, access to the inner sanctum of the justice department, suspicion of everyone including your own motives, attractions where there shouldn't be, divided loyalties, corruption, small glimpses of hope and of course, New York doing what it does best: never, ever sleeping.

(Personally, I'm shipping the heck out of Meghan/Kyle. Lots of tense encounters, then he saves her life, she saves his and oh look, there's that line between cop and suspect...)

Oh, God, I would watch this show religiously if it were real. Why isn't it real?!

The casting is so spectacular (I have loved Stockard Channing for years) and the plot itself sounds so intriguing. I am shipping Danny/Alex already! :D

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I want it to be real, SO BAD. Ugh.

And oh yeah. Danny/Alex all the way. He's always adored her and wants to remain unbiased, but he can't and she knows how he feels about her and has always thought 'what if?' Eeeeee!

[identity profile] lady-with-cats.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's surprising but I'd actually rather not ship anyone just yet. Maybe when everyone's characters have had a chance to explode and simmer. I want to see the angst! :D

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and there will be angst. A LOT of angst. So, I'm totally with you on the waiting to ship. :D

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
FAKE TV SHOWS MAKE ME SO HAPPY. Just. Argh. Why aren't we in charge of things? Seriously. There is such crap on telly and I want quality. Without commercials.

UGH. THERE YOU GO AND NOW I HAVE TO THINK OF A PLOT.

Sigh. All those pretty, pretty people...

Mwaha. Haha. Hahahahahaha. :P
ext_18985: (puzzled)

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
BITE ME. I am... completely puzzled with the idea that's coming out. IDEK.

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely puzzled works for me. :D

[identity profile] jal80.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, Fake TV Shows make my day! :) I looooove this one, too! Totally shipping Kyle/Meghan! And Danny/Alex! Man, thanks a LOT. Now all I wanna do is make up fake shows foooreeevvvverrrr... ;-)

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! So glad you like! FAKE TV SHOWS ARE THE BESTEST!!

[identity profile] halfpenny-press.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Oh! OH!! This is wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL!!

Helloooo Marcus Rider! I'm pretty sure my primary ship for this show would be Marcus/Me, but that's another story :)

Also Kyle/Meghan FTW. That would be epic to watch. They'd run into each other getting coffee some morning and inadvertently spend the entire day together. Like, a whole Saturday getting bagels and wandering around the park and laughing, and she'd go in for an evening shift and her boss would ask for a report on that Baden kid and *WHUMP*

And he'd run into her again, all bright eyes and happy, and she'd be weirdly professional and they'd both be a little hurt and AAANGST. Then kissing. So much kissing. XD

tl;dr = J'ADORE!!

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Eeee! Oh, I'm so glad you like it! It was terribly fun to think about and Meghan/Kyle just make me, ugh. Yeah. :D

That is SO what would happen.

[identity profile] hiddencait.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo I'm not always a fan of cop dramas, but with this cast, and this plot.. I'd be bribing everyone I know who has cable to record this for me!!

And dude.. I'm not sure who is more droolworthy: Daniel Dae Kim with a gun or Taye Diggs dressed to the nines in a courtroom...

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-04-03 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thank you kindly! I had a lot of fun thinking about these folks!

[identity profile] triaden.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo... this is interesting. Again this isn't something that I could ever write. The plot is too far reaching for my tiny brain, but I'ld love to find out what corrupted him!

[identity profile] seren-ccd.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, gosh. I doubt I could ever actually write anything for it, but I'd soo tune in every week! :D

[identity profile] triaden.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right?

[identity profile] shirleyann66.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(once again - better late than never, right? :D)

Another show I'd watch...but only if Stockard Channing has at least one five-minute monologue per show because that woman has the best voice ever. LOL
