seren_ccd: (Yuletide!)
Things!

1. The lovely [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui asked me to chatter on about Almost Human and since it contains my movie boyfriend Karl Urban, I can so do this.

Almost Human!

I really thought this show had some serious potential. I love films like Blade Runner and I really think if this show had been given another season, it could have gone somewhere cool. The setting is FILLED with all sorts of things they could have done. Imagine every single Phillip K. Dick or Neal Stephenson story - it could have gone into this show. I just want my rain-soaked techno-neuromancer groove show, is that too much to ask?

I liked grumpy!jaded!cop!Karl and Dorian the Super Awesome Android. I've loved Lili Taylor since Mystic Pizza (showing my age again!) and to have her be the boss? Perfection!

Ugh, why cancel the shows with potential? *sulks* I liked having Karl on my telly on a weekly basis. SO disappointing.

2. Yuletide noms are open! Wooo!

3. I've discovered that I've somehow started writing my original thing in first person. It feels good. I'm...going to go for it and see what happens next.

Pics! Would you like pics? pretty people! )

Happy Monday! (If that's possible!) ♥

Ugh. Can May be over already? Le husband is taking his exams at the moment and the stress may just do me in. I’m not kidding. My left eyelid has developed what I’m hoping is a stress-related twitch.

If I do expire before the end of the month, would everyone please tell the world that I was a good person who loved to read and was kind to small animals? I’d really appreciate it.

*headdesk*

In other news, it's Wednesday! And I have another screencap of the two silly people that I've kinda written close to 8,000 words on already. eep. morons )

Happy Wednesday! ♥
seren_ccd: (In Plain Sight - Marshall cannot outrun)
Welp.

I managed to walk all the way to my office yesterday morning, and got up the lift to my desk before I realised that I had left my backpack at home. Meaning no keys, no wallet, nothing. *FACE. PALM.*

So I walked back and my husband met me partway with it before catching his bus. We came very close to saying ‘Heck with responsibilities – let’s catch the next train up to Edinburgh for the day!’ VERY. CLOSE.

I would like to make a motion for February to be stricken from the calendar as a month in which we attempt to do things. I move that we hibernate for the full 28 days.

Is the motion seconded?

It’s Wednesday so: picture time!

However, instead of pretty people, I bring pretty places. These are of Llanberis, which is a lovely little town in North Wales right smack at the base of Mt Snowden. It’s really tucked away in a little valley, but the Atlantic is only a few miles away. On a clear day, you can see it! I visited it once with my dad, actually when he came for a visit to the UK. It’s very small, and filled with B&Bs and hiking shops and a really, really yummy vegetarian café. Seriously, the fruit crumble with custard was a revelation.

So, this is the setting for my story. A valley with a quarry, disused slate mines, in the mountains and not too far from the sea. You either have to drive or take the bus from Bangor in order to get there. I highly recommend a visit!

CwmAlaw

Happy Wednesday! ♥

*Does anyone remember Chris Kattan in Saturday Night Live? Anyone? Bueller? He was funny is my point. And had flair. His Mango sketch never fails to make me snicker – because I’m 12.

When I first read Dogs and Goddesses by Jennifer Crusie, Anne Stuart and Lani Diane Rich, I immediately thought: Picspam Time! Pretty much so I could spam you all with pictures of pretty people and dogs. That being said, this is a very cute book. While there are some sections that are better than others, it's ideal for that rainy day when you want to read about dogs. That can talk. :D

Dogs and Goddesses

Abby has just arrived in Summerville, Ohio, with her placid Newfoundland, Bowser. She’s reluctantly inherited her grandmother’s coffee shop, but it’s not long before she’s brewing up trouble in the form of magical baked goods and steaming up her life with an exasperating college professor.

And then there’s Daisy, a web code writer, and her hyperactive Jack Russell, Bailey. Her tightly-wound world spins out of control when she discovers the chaos within and meets a mysterious dog trainer whose teaching style is definitely hands-on.

Finally there’s Shar, professor of ancient history at Summerville College, who wakes up one morning to find her neurotic dachshund, Wolfie, snarling at an implacable god sitting at her kitchen table, the first thing in her life she hasn’t been able to footnote.

What on earth is going on in this unearthly little town? It’s up to Abby, Daisy, and Shar to find out before an ancient goddess takes over Southern Ohio, and they all end up in the apocalyptic doghouse…

So, here is my first attempt at dream casting a book!

This is who I'd love to see on-screen should they ever film Crazy for You by Jennifer Crusie. Blame can be laid at the feet of [livejournal.com profile] robanybody whose own amazing dream casts inspired me. ♥ Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] fringedweller can be blamed for re-introducing me to Chris O'Donnell. :D

This is really, really bad for dial-up!

Stuff What is Good.

1. I had a dream with Joel McHale in it! We were at a Mexican restaurant. There were burritos! Three of my favorite things in ONE DREAM: Joel McHale, Mexican restaurants and burritos!

Thus concludes my Liz Lemon moment of the day.

2. I'm writing the next in the Teeth, Claws and Guinness series and get to spend some time in the head of a Glenling (aka a Wee Free Man) which is kind of delightful.

3. I'm PMS-ing like a mad woman. This isn't a good thing per se, but realizing that PMS is the reason I keep getting irritable and glaring at random people is a good thing. I've already warned my husband and he's being ultra-nice and slightly wary.

4. I had a pink lady apple today with lunch and it was wonderfully crispy!

5. More fake tv shows! Look it!

[livejournal.com profile] shirleyann66's A Life Less Ordinary. It's got Karl Urban and Megan Follows in it and Karl gets to keep his accent! ALSO, she's doing this for ScriptFrenzy! Send lots of encouragement her way and hope she lets us see the finished product!

[livejournal.com profile] charliehey's Modern Charity. C'est tres magnifique et plus de plaisir physique!

[livejournal.com profile] robanybody's Desk Jockeys. Y'all, Grace Park and Joel McHale make out and Jamie Bell has a little minion hat.

And [livejournal.com profile] robanybody gave me some more actors/actresses that are some of the BAMFiest BAMFs that ever BAMFed. I'm thinking a newsroom ala Drop the Dead Donkey.

And if you missed the previous ones:

[livejournal.com profile] aj's Red Skies Damien Lewis and Sarah Shahi , you guys. They're on a boat.

[livejournal.com profile] jal80's The Quatermain Society Archaeology and smexiness. Mmmm.

[livejournal.com profile] halfpenny_press's Conductor: The Age of Steel STEAMPUNK and PERSONAL MACHINATIONS.

(mine are here)

Annd, oh heck why not, have some pictures! )

This is Show #2 based on actor/actress prompts by the utterly fabulous [livejournal.com profile] halfpenny_press.

The Aching City

The city moans, it lunges up right from the ground
The seething earth, it opens up and spits us out
This vicious child, nature never wanted us

It's Wednesday! And it's not a bad day.

Here are Five Things that Have Made me Smile Today:

1. My husband is feeling better. Which means I am feeling better.

2. They've been digging in the line of shrubbery outside my office and today they've filled it back in and put fresh damp mulch on. It smells like my childhood outside when I would go running barefoot through the paths in the parks.

3. This Open Letter to Madeleine L'Engle I found on McSweeney's. I loved Madeleine L'Engle and A Wrinkle in Time totally formed my world-view when I was 10.

4. This interview with Michael Fassbender. Yeah. I just. Yeah. Watch.

5. I've been reading Getting Rid of Bradley by Jenny Crusie (I know! I like her books.) and I'm so seeing these people as the two lead characters. the usual cut for pictures of people i find pretty )
seren_ccd: (Michael Fassbender - ARMS)
Y'all.

Jane Eyre isn't going to be released in the UK until September.

SEPTEMBER!!!!!

I CANNOT WAIT THAT LONG!!!!!! *sobs*

Why? Why is a film that was filmed in the UK, starring several UK actors and actresses, WRITTEN BY SOMEONE IN THE UK, not being shown IN THE BLOODY UK?!?

*grumbles and goes to make a cup of tea*

Anyway! Pictures! I haven't done this in a bit and felt the urge.

Have some pictures of Evan and Hannah, Quinn and Nick, and Janice and Jim.

a werewolf, a mechanic and a Starfleet captain walk into a bar... )

Happy Thursday!

500th POST! WOOHOO! Paaaaar-ta-

No! The word 'party' will not be used as a verb in this book store! :D

As my 500th post on the LJ, I just have to say Thank you to all of you! Your comments yesterday made me feel warm and appreciated and just plain fantastic. Thank you.

SO!

Five things that are making me happy today:

1. The following quotes on writing:

You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. ~Ray Bradbury

The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say. ~Anaïs Nin

If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. ~Toni Morrison

Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It's the one and only thing you have to offer.
~ Barbara Kingsolver

We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. ~ W. Somerset Maugham

I write for the same reason I breathe - because if I didn't, I would die. ~ Isaac Asimov (these last two courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] shirleyann66)

2. The fact that this year the following movies are coming out: Jane Eyre, X-Men: First Class, Priest and Winnie the Pooh. It's gonna be a good year.

3. I'm getting new glasses on Thursday! Cute glasses!

4. I'm making progress on two of my stories.

5. The sun keeps coming out for just a few moments, but it's there.

Pictures! )

Happy Wednesday everyone! Is it just me, or does everyone wake up on a Wednesday and go 'Well, at least I've only got to do that two more times before the weekend.'

The plan for this weekend is write, write, write. And then write some more. I have four stories that I would like to write. At least two of them should be finished by the end of this month, at the very least.

Anyway!

The Cast List for Teeth, Claws and Guinness is growing. BUT, I've figured out the bad guy. Yay!

a hematologist, a raven and a bad, bad man )
seren_ccd: (Hot Fuzz quote)
I'm in such a nostalgic mood today, I'm listening to music from my middle school years and I am such a child of the early 90s. I'm eating up Def Leppard, Amy Grant, George Michael and the Stereo MCs like a fiend. *sighs*

Seriously, this cheesy, cheesy video used to make my heart flutter. (a link b/c they don't have an embed code)

ALSO! There is a love meme going on over here. My thread is here. Let me know who else has put up a thread so I can tell you all how much I adore and appreciate you! :D

The writing has been very hard this week. The ideas are all there, as is the plot (for a change), but the actual, physical writing has been tough. Therefore, I bring my weekly posting of pictures of Evan and Hannah!

loud and clear they stake my claim, yeah )

Happy Thursday!
seren_ccd: (Karl Urban's smile)
FRIDAY!!!!

I've been invited to go geo-caching and wassailing tomorrow. If the weather continues to be as nice as it currently it, I might go.

Sooo, since it's Friday and it was a long week, I'm posting pictures of pretty people. Just 'cause. :D

This will kill your dial-up, btw!

just one look at you )

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!
seren_ccd: (Michael Fassbender is looking at you)
Back at work. Spent all morning getting large packets of stuff ready for posting. My paper-cut fingers are not happy.

Ans why is it that everytime I go outside I get poured on? I mean, drenched. Not nice, universe. Not nice at all.

Seeing as it's Wednesday, it's picture and Teeth, Claws and Guinness snippet time. Woohoo!

Hannah and Evan loveliness )

Happy Wednesday!
seren_ccd: (Michael Fassbender - ARMS)
The fact that it's wonderfully stormy and grey outside with leaves slowly falling from the trees means it's a perfect day to post this!

This is the current cast list for my original series, Teeth, Claws and Guinness which follows the adventures of a small village in the Welsh mountains. You've got Evan, an accountant with a recent affliction of the 'furry' kind, Hannah, a pub owner with a sharp tongue and big heart, Stev, a fishmonger who catches fish with his hands, and Elinor, a cafe owner who may or may not have summoned a group of mischievous pictsies to the village.

Meet the townsfolk!

So not dial-up friendly )
seren_ccd: (Karen Gillan as Hannah)
Are you tired of this yet? 'Cause I've got more castings for the Teeth, Claws and Guinness world.

The village of Cwm Alaw is based on the real town of Llanberis in the Snowdonia mountains in North Wales. I visited it last year around this same time of year. It is at the base of Mt. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. It's a beautiful town and is THE place to go for hiking and climbing. I highly recommend visiting if you can. The scenery will take your breath away. It's also a short bus ride from the sea.

See more about the town here and here.

And here are some pictures: Llanberis aka Cwm Alaw )

And I'm adding to the Cast List!

Meet Gwendi's Parents: )
Seriously, someone needs to take the internet away from me. I honestly can't stop with this thing.

Hello!

Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes, y'all! I had a great day and weekend! Thank you!

So, the move is ongoing. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. No job yet, but it'll happen.

My Big Bang is undergoing it's last few corrections and posting will commence next week sometime. (check out my awesome icon by [livejournal.com profile] silveronthetree! eee!)

I saw the latest Community episode and can I just say: spoilers and seren is not amused. at all. )

I did manage to see Haven. Holy crap show! WHAT?! EEEE!

And I now have a name for the werewolf series: Teeth, Claws and Guinness

I am having so much fun with backstories at the moment!

Have some pictures and two snippets )

Have a good Monday!
seren_ccd: (Aliens - Where do you want it?)
Oh, my good God, could today be any more boring? I want to go hoooommmme. And cook dinner. Seriously. That is all I want to do. I want to go and cook a nice spaghetti sauce. With red onions.

But, anyway, look at this picture I found! I seriously think these two were my first 'bad' boy/'good' girl ship. It's because of Molly Ringwald that I have always wanted red hair.
