seren_ccd: (Michael Fassbender is looking at you)

It's Wednesday! And it's not a bad day.

Here are Five Things that Have Made me Smile Today:

1. My husband is feeling better. Which means I am feeling better.

2. They've been digging in the line of shrubbery outside my office and today they've filled it back in and put fresh damp mulch on. It smells like my childhood outside when I would go running barefoot through the paths in the parks.

3. This Open Letter to Madeleine L'Engle I found on McSweeney's. I loved Madeleine L'Engle and A Wrinkle in Time totally formed my world-view when I was 10.

4. This interview with Michael Fassbender. Yeah. I just. Yeah. Watch.

5. I've been reading Getting Rid of Bradley by Jenny Crusie (I know! I like her books.) and I'm so seeing these people as the two lead characters.

Rachel Weisz as Lucy Savage and Adrien Brody as Zach Warren.

An excerpt:

Zack laughed. She looked so funny, neat and round with all that crazy dead black hair haloing her face, calmly announcing that she was a lot meaner today. What a sweetheart.

Dumb as a rock, but sweet.

"You're not going back to school tomorrow," he told her. "You're moving in with your sister until I figure out what's going on."

Lucy frowned. "How long will that take? Especially if you're going to figure it out by instinct. I don't have that much sick leave. I don't think anybody does."

She wasn't that sweet.

Zack glared at her, and she blinked.

"Sorry," Lucy said. "I don't know what's gotten into me today."

Y'all. There's a dog named Heisenberg that does a dead dog joke. It's adorable.

Annnd, just for the heck of it:

Have an excerpt from the next story in the Teeth, Claws and Guinness series:

“I imagine you’ll be helping Hannah with her drinks booth?” Portia asked coming back by his table with a bowl of beef stew.

Evan’s eyes widened. “Her what?”

“The Sheep and Crow always have a booth at the festival with samples of local ales from all over Wales,” Portia said. “She could probably use a nice sturdy young man such as yourself to help keep things under control.”

“Are you saying she needs a bouncer?” Evan asked before taking a bite of stew and nearly groaning aloud at the rich flavour of the beef.

“Oh, is that the term?” Portia said innocently. “You should talk to her. How is she, by the way?”

Portia’s last question was phrased casually enough, but Evan could see the concern in her eyes over the ‘incident’ that occurred the week prior with Davis.

“She’s fine. Well, she says she’s fine,” Evan said staring into his bowl. “Loud noises make her jump, even though she tries to hide it.”

“You’ve been staying out at her house since it happened.” Portia wasn’t asking a question, merely stating a fact.

“I have,” he said. He met the older woman’s eyes. “Is that a problem?”

“Please. If Hannah wants you there, be there,” Portia said with smile.

“No, not that,” Evan said feeling his face flush. “I meant, uh, could me staying out there, ah, damage, um...”

“Evan, are you asking if you staying with Hannah, alone, in her house, will hurt her reputation and standing in the community?” The amused tone of Portia’s voice made Evan flush even more.

“I suppose I am,” he said stabbing at a piece of potato.

“Well, I’m hardly the woman to tell you anything about what a person should and shouldn’t do,” Portia said, “But I’m fairly sure that we are living in the twenty-first century and too many folks like Hannah and her family too much to ever think about saying anything against her. I’m pretty sure you’re safe.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled before eating more of his soup feeling somewhat like a teenager asking permission to date someone’s daughter.

“Don’t mention it,” Portia said her eyes sparkling with mirth. Then she left him to his lunch.

Happy Wednesday!

YES, RACHEL AS LUCY. So perfect. :D I do actually like the idea of Adrien as Zack way more than my original thought of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Zack. (I cast him in everything, you see.)

And *happy sigh* Hannah and Evan. I love this series so much. ♥

I will cast Rachel Weisz in anything! ;D But, I think she can pull off sweet and strong and sexy (I WANT TO BE EVELYN CARNAHAN-O'CONNELL WHEN I GROW UP). I thought Adrien could pull off Zack really well. He can do sexy and then kind of goofy. He can also do 'I've just been totally disarmed by the woman standing in front of me', so I kind of love him.

Hannah and Evan. *sighs* I still have so many ideas for them. I can't wait for my life to begin to approach a kind of stable normal and I can focus on writing for more than 10 minutes at a time. I just love them so much.

I ususally end up wanting to cast Sandra Bullock in all Crusie books because she does funny and goofy really well. I am still trying to cast Fast Women, by the way. What do you think of Diane Lane and JDM as Nell and Gabe?

I cannot wait for more Evan and Hannah from you. Especially since that screen test is pretty much how I think of Evan. :D

Oh, you know, I could see Diane Lane as Nell. She can do calm and sexy, but then she smiles and she looks like a teenager. Yeah! And JDM is just adorable. Actually, what's a good movie with him in it? I had the misfortune of watching the Accidental Husband and was not impressed.

Especially since that screen test is pretty much how I think of Evan. I know! I'd already written a bit about him thinking about his Catholic upbringing ages ago! Eeee!

Sadly, Jeffrey doesn't make good movies, at least not so far. The only one I actually liked was The Losers and that's mainly because he made out with Zoe Saldana a lot. I tolerated P.S. I Love You for Jeff with an Irish accent and Gerard Butler, but it was not good. Everything else is either crap or a cult classic, and he dies in all of them. And I hated Watchmen, and I am apparently the only one.

Now I wonder if Evan wanted to fly when he was a kid.

and he dies in all of them.

Michael and Jeffrey need to do a movie together where they don't die and are, in fact, nice guys who laugh. :o

Right? And also both speak with Irish accents for some reason. Like maybe they're brothers. Or cousins. And Selkies.

I mean--

Y'all.

Well, Evan does have a brother... Upstanding family man, that sort of fellow... He might come for a visit one of these days...

Getting Rid of Bradley is one of my favorite books! And that's one of my favorite quotes from it! :) I totally love your casting.

It's so funny! And sweet and sexy and adorable and, oh yeah. Love this book! I'm really glad someone else likes the casting! They'd have so much fun as Lucy and Zack. :D

Michael is such an adorable, endearing man. Mama's boy!

Hannah and Evan! I love them so much. I love when Evan gets all shy and cute over Hannah. ♥

He's such a boy! And he talks to himself! :D

Evan is such a goober, trying to be all noble and charming.

You know, when I first read Getting Rid of Bradley back in 1995, I hated it. It was the first of her books I'd read and I didn't understand why it wasn't full of awkward vigins, controlling bosses and secret bosses like all the other romances I was reading. Thankfully my reading taste has improved somewhat, but it's one of the few of her books I don't have.

Hee! It's really kind of a cute one. Not her best, I'll admit that, but definitely charming. I got it off amazon.co.uk about a month ago and am giving it a re-read.

Wasn't it? I've always loved her and I thought the author illustrated a lot of what I identified with.

Reading "A Wrinkle in Time" for the first time at the age of ten was an unforgettable and transcendent experience. Now I know I'm not alone in feeling that way.

I have such a soft spot for Jenny Cruise! I can't count how many times I've read Manhunting and Faking It (okay, I could, it's not that many, but seriously, her books are adorable).

Jenny Crusie is so much fun! I know her later novels haven't been as good, but I'll read anything she writes.
