March 13 - Horror stories
Mar. 13th, 2015 05:05 pmMarch 13, favorite "horror" stories, however you define horror. For
redbrunja
Ooooh, there's a short story by Stephen King called the Man in Black Suit. That's the kind of horror I 'like'. It's that kind of unsettling feeling where you know something is off, but you can't quite figure out what it is. I much prefer that to slasher films.
Things that have flat out scared the crap of me include: The Ring, Aliens, Jeepers Creepers and the Shining.

March 8 - Fandom of my heart
Mar. 8th, 2015 10:39 amFor the lovely
hiddencait: What's the fandom of your heart for the moment and/or has something shown up and surprised you with how excited you are for it?
Oh, heck. To be perfectly honest, I feel so out of fandom these days. There are shows I like (Elementary) and shows I'm waiting to binge-watch (Agent Carter, season two of The Musketeers), but nothing I'm involved with anymore. Work is too busy and I don't really have the time or opportunity to watch much anymore. I tend to save episodes up for when I have a day off.
Also, I'm really, really, REALLY trying to write this novel thing and I spend most of my time thinking about that world and those characters (Teeth, Claws and Guinness). In fact, it's become this massive thing in my head and I'm so busy trying to get it in order and then get it out on paper.
We'll see!
As always though, I still love reading Star Trek, LoTR/Hobbit, In Plain Sight, Primeval and the occasional Doctor Who fics!

March 5 - Romantic dynamics!
Mar. 5th, 2015 05:09 pmFor
redbrunja - repeated romantic dynamics in your shipper history.
I shall list them!
1. Respect between the two romantic leads for their respective capabilities. They may not like each other or be attracted to each other at first, but they darn well appreciate how hard they work.
2. Snark. Give me some fun dialogue and I'm a happy Seren.
3. Equal footing. I always try to make sure that if one person has one kind of advantage over the other, the other person has another type of advantage. For example - with my Primeval pairing of Jess and Becker - Becker may be a serious badass of a soldier and can take out a man 40 different ways with a teaspoon, Jess can run rings around his computer skills. I like a level playing field amongst the characters.
4. I like tall guys and petite ladies. I can't help it. I'm a rather petite lady and le husband is 6", so there's a thing there.
5. Jenny Crusie once mentioned that in Moonstruck the two leads are utterly wrecked by each other in a fantastic way. I like that. I like the leads to have to throw out all previous preconceptions about love, people and themselves and just have to go with it.
6. They need to learn from each other. They hold each other up and NEVER bring each other down EVER.
7. Oh, heck - THEY HAVE TO LIKE EACH OTHER. There was a post going around tumblr about how some pairings are all 'Oh, we will defeat this evil together because we are MEANT TO BE', but would they enjoy sitting down and watching a bad sci-fi movie together and going grocery shopping? I like my pairings to enjoy grocery shopping together. I fully expect them to bicker over whether or not to get ice cream or cake or pie and end up with all three.
I think that's the lot. :D

Pick a date between March 1st and March 15th and give me something to talk about. Give me a question or topic-- absolutely anything fannish goes: TV, movies, books, comics, fandom, ships, fictional characters, actors, writing, arting, whatever strikes your fancy...
Also, feel free to suggest multiple topics/dates or to just leave a topic and no date, I'll fill it in. ;)

Meme! Brought to you by the letter M!
Feb. 18th, 2015 06:27 pmAs tagged by
hiddencait with the letter "M." Comment if you'd like a letter of your own!
Something I hate: Meatloaf. I've tried. Honest, I have. It just doesn't do it for me. The food, btw, not the singer. He cracks me up.
Something I love: Maggie, my first puppy that I had as an adult. I loved that dog. I fostered her from 4 weeks old and she was so smart. She was a lab mix with who knows what. She could chase her tail on command and if you asked her to 'get her leash!', she go get it and bring it to you. I used to sing the Rod Stewart 'Maggie May' song to her and she dance.
Somewhere I've been: Malta. I loved Malta. I went there for my honeymoon and I swear, if I had the money, I'd go and spend a month there writing and walking and eating.
Somewhere I'd like to go: Madagascar. I doubt I'll ever get the chance, but I think it would be amazing.
Someone I know: Hmmm, the woman I work most closely with at the moment is named Maureen. She's fabulous!
A film I like: THE MUMMY! The bestest movie EVER!!!!!!!!
A book I love: The first one that comes to mind is 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl. I definitely tried to move stuff with my mind one afternoon after reading it.
An author I enjoy: Margery Allingham. She's just slightly pre-Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers. Very fun who-dun-it's.
Drop me a comment if you want a letter of your own!

Meme! This is a good one!
Sep. 2nd, 2014 06:24 pmOoh! Meme-time! I have a bunch of WIPs, but this one will be from my original stuff.
FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project
LAST — the most recently written two sentences of my current project
NEXT — the next line. meaning i will finish the sentence I’m on and write a new one, which you’ll get.
[insert prompt here] — you post a prompt, and i’ll write three sentences based on that prompt, set in the same time/setting as my current project
THE END — i’ll make up an ending, or post the ending if i’ve written it
BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project
POV — something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective

Hi! Hello! Howdy!
Life. Oh, life. So, the biggest thing is that I got a promotion. It's kind of cool! I'm now project management support for this big piece of legislation that has to be implemented throughout the county and I'm going to be the person on the other end of the phone telling people (nicely) to please get your stuff done. Eeeeee! There's a raise an everything. I'm a little frazzled. *twitches*
I've just started watching BBC's Musketeers and it's DELIGHTFUL.
I...have not been writing, which sucks. So... MEME!
Leave me a prompt, a pairing or a charactor, and a fandom and I will write you a three line fic. Throw anyone at me! Help me write! :D

Day 5 - hiddencait's question
Feb. 13th, 2014 06:03 pmDay 5 -
hiddencait - favorite movie and favorite fic/art for that movie
Oooh, SO HARD. I'm going to go with The Mummy because it is one of my favorite movies and always makes me smile.
My favorite fic for it is: Never Spellbound by a Starry Sky. Shenanigans, capers and it's just lovely and makes me smile.

Day 4 -lullabymoon's question
Feb. 10th, 2014 06:16 pmDay 4 -
lullabymoon - places you would like to travel to or see again
Ooh, wow. Where wouldn't I like to travel to? :D
Places I'd love to see again - Malta. We went there on our honeymoon during the off-season (end of October) and LOVED IT. Walkable, affordable, blue, blue sea, good food and wine and just wow. I want to go back. So relaxing.
Vienna. The BEST cafes in the world. And it's gorgeous and everyone has a dog.
Dresden. We were only there for two hours and I want to go back and explore.
Places I want to visit - I've never been to the US west coast and I want to see Portland, Oregon and San Francisco.
I'm currently in Scotland and I'm dying to get over to Inverness.
Patagonia. They speak Welsh in some places and it looks stunning.
Norway. I want to see a fjord.
New Zealand. Although this one could be dangerous. I'm afraid I'll like it too much and not want to come back. It happened to me with Wales...

Day 3 - velvetmouse's question
Feb. 7th, 2014 05:52 pmDay 3 -
velvetmouse asked: tell us about (one of) your bullet-proof kink/trope, why you love it so much, and who your favorite characters/pairings for it are
Mysteries! Adventures! Pretending to be married to solve crime and then falling into bed with with other and then Oh NO! I've developed FEELINGS!
Seriously, give me two (or more) people on an adventure and I'm there. I love people working together, using their individual strengths and then their combined strengths to fight crime!
Favorite pairings: ALL OF THEM! Darcy/Clint, Darcy/Steve, MCCOY/CHAPEL, Pepper/Tony, Doctor/Companion (mostly Nine/Rose).
Utterly random fic recs: Donna the Vampire Slayer The West Wing - Donna Moss is a vampire slayer. Yep. You read that right. It's awesome. I love it. Guess who's her Watcher. It's not Josh, even though he's fantastic in this.
A Judge of Their Characters - Pride and Prejudice - It's a mystery and it's Regency!AU from the get go. Lizzy and Darcy solve a mystery. There's a fair bit of violence, just to warn!
Number 84 - In Plain Sight - Mary and Marshall, y'all. My FAVES for this kind of fic. Start with this one and then read EVERYTHING this author has written. Seriously. You don't need to know the 'verse, they're brilliant.
Don't You Get Me High - McCoy/Chapel as Sam Spade and Effie Perine. It's gorgeous. It's sadly a WIP, but read it anyway!

Prompt me!
Jun. 23rd, 2013 05:14 pmOh, sweet Jesus, I need inspiration. Or lots of chocolate or a lobotomy, I don't even know. (Btw, does anyone out there watch Boardwalk Empire? No? Right. Moving on.)
I definitely know I need to get my fingers typing, so...prompt me!
Leave me a prompt, a pairing or a charactor, and a fandom and I will write you a three line fic.

To take my mind off, well, everything, here's a fun meme:
I currently have 26 works archived at the AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 26 (the first thing I posted there), and I’ll tell you three things I currently like about it.

Long week. Have a meme!
Feb. 24th, 2012 06:13 pmIt was a long week. Not due to anything bad, just due to it being a long week.
I've been writing a wee bit every day. Belle and Rumpelstiltskin are currently eyeing each other over a continental breakfast somewhere in mid-Illinois. I'm honestly not kidding. :D
Meme! This is a good one.
Friday!!! Woooo! ♥

The Aching City

The seething earth, it opens up and spits us out

This vicious child, a cancer burning black into its heart
