Things on a Monday!

+ I got my job offer in writing today, woo! SUCH a relief.

+ I got some lovely gift vouchers for my b-day to a nice shop in town, so today I got a really cozy dark red jumper with little buttons on it. I'm trying to expand my color palette and this seemed like a good color to try. SO comfy!

+ Writing continues, but I have a question for everyone! Seeing as this is October and I'm writing what is, in essence, a ghost story, I'm curious - what scares you? What are some 'tropes' that actually get your pulse running? Everyday things that give you a little bit of a fright?

For me, it's definitely having to walk out of a dark room at night. Ugh, gives me the creeps. Or passing by a staircase where I can't quite see the bottom step? *shivers*

So what unsettles you?

Happy Monday!

Day 5 - [livejournal.com profile] hiddencait - favorite movie and favorite fic/art for that movie

Oooh, SO HARD. I'm going to go with The Mummy because it is one of my favorite movies and always makes me smile.

My favorite fic for it is: Never Spellbound by a Starry Sky. Shenanigans, capers and it's just lovely and makes me smile.

Day 4 - [livejournal.com profile] lullabymoon - places you would like to travel to or see again

Ooh, wow. Where wouldn't I like to travel to? :D

Places I'd love to see again - Malta. We went there on our honeymoon during the off-season (end of October) and LOVED IT. Walkable, affordable, blue, blue sea, good food and wine and just wow. I want to go back. So relaxing.

Vienna. The BEST cafes in the world. And it's gorgeous and everyone has a dog.

Dresden. We were only there for two hours and I want to go back and explore.

Places I want to visit - I've never been to the US west coast and I want to see Portland, Oregon and San Francisco.

I'm currently in Scotland and I'm dying to get over to Inverness.

Patagonia. They speak Welsh in some places and it looks stunning.

Norway. I want to see a fjord.

New Zealand. Although this one could be dangerous. I'm afraid I'll like it too much and not want to come back. It happened to me with Wales...

Okay.

So, if, IF!, I were to write Oliver/Felicity fic from Arrow, what would you most like to see happen?* I need to know this because of reasons.

*This is brought to you by their ridiculous on-screen chemistry, her voice and his stupid face.

ETA: Okay. I'm scribbling something. The tentative title is: Oliver. Stop being a bonehead. Here's how.

Okay, I have a question about something that is really, really bugging me.

When I left the house I was renting, I made sure to clean it. I scrubbed the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, refrigerator, vacuumed, etc. I did everything that I could in a limited amount of time and with only my two hands.

Was it professional-grade clean? Probably not, but it was certainly liveable.

My former landlady is planning to take out £360 out of my rental deposit for the cleaning of two professional cleaners over the course of two days. Basically, she's charging me for a professional cleaning.

This is not sitting well with me. I was under the impression that landlords were obliged to clean the rental property under their own steam. There was no damage and I don't think comparing the job I did with that of professional cleaners is fair.

What does everyone else think?

How do you prefer to read character thoughts? With quotation marks (single or double) or in italics or nothing at all?

[Poll #1914856]

Thank you! How is everyone?

Do any of my flist peoples live in London?

If so, how's the job market looking these days? I mean, apart from dire and miserable and dear God, when can I go live on an island somewhere and raise goats and hedgehogs.

:P

Clothes!

Flisters who live in the UK (or anywhere, really), what are your favorite online sites for clothes?

The shops in my town are rubbish and shopping makes me ill.

I've tried amazon, but nothing really catches my eye. Ebay? I'm really looking for standard stuff, nice (ish) trousers, tops, cardigans, etc.

Help?

In the meantime, I'm really, really cold and I think I've actually got chills. I'd really prefer NOT to be sick.

All-knowing, incredible friends-list!

I'm looking for a villain for my [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang. Who are some of your favorite Marvel villains? Who is someone who would have no particular qualms about harassing people and hiring locals to his/her dirty work? I just stumbled across John Bushmaster on the Marvel wiki and he sounds pretty hardcore.

Also, who are some old-school awesome female characters? Like Peggy Carter, who were around and kicking ass a few decades earlier?

My knowledge of comics is woefully lacking.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!
seren_ccd: (Will not do)
Oh, all-knowing friends-list, I have a question. Actually, I have two questions.

1. If you have a small town of roughly 2,000 people, would it be possible for them to only have a smallish medical practice of say, four nurses, one permanent MD, and one part-time MD? Said town is located fairly close to a larger town with a hospital, so it wouldn't take too long to reach it in an emergency. Does that amount of staff sound reasonable? Perhaps they have some visiting consultants?

2. In said clinic, would it be reasonable for them to have x-ray equipment and the supplies to handle broken bones? Nothing complicated or anything that required surgery, but just the basics to tide someone over until they could get to a large hospital the following day?

Thank you!!!

Oh, heck.

My Google-fu is failing me. All-knowing friends-list, is there a specific name for the bags that donated blood is kept in? Or are they just simply called 'bags'? Or is it something else entirely?

Thank you!

Also, how much better am I feeling for sleeping in this morning? :D
seren_ccd: (Aliens - Where do you want it?)
I know other people have posted this, but I just read it and it made me smile and lifted my mood.

Anti-Bullying Starts in the First Grade. You should read the comments sent in from people. Just. Yeah. Geek girls are awesome!

Also, I have a question for all the Kindle users out there. Do you think that you read faster or slower with a Kindle? Have any of your reading habits changed? Most of all, do you recommend them? I may have to do a lot of commuting in the near future, so...

And, anyone else excited about Yuletide assignments? *bounces*

Have a good weekend!

So, I'm going to be posting my Big Bang in a couple of weeks (Thank GOD!) and I have a question for you:

Would you prefer that the posts be one for each chapter (I think there are ten) or just post as much text as I can so that there are fewer posts to click to?

Thanks!

Also, not to self: DO NOT PAINT IN YOUR BEDROOM WHERE YOU INTEND TO SLEEP. Otherwise, you will wake up feeling really, really terrible and completely unable to sleep and will, in fact continue to feel gross while posting this note to self.

Argh.

Super quick question.

What are some fun fashion websites to peruse?

I'm looking for wardrobe inspiration for Amy Pond, to be specific. I've already looked at Anthropologie.

Thank you!

I'm a posting fool today it seems.

But, I've got a random question.

When you are thinking Kirk/Chapel/McCoy (yes, in that way) what are some songs that you identify with them?

I have a question for all the writers/readers on my flist. Do any of ya'll have a good example of flashback used in either lit or fic? Or let me know how you feel about flashbacks. Some people can't stand them and I'd love to know why.

I've hit a bit of a block and am having trouble finding a seamless way of inserting flashbacks. I know I've seen good examples, but am drawing a complete blank.

Halp?
