All-knowing, incredible friends-list!

I'm looking for a villain for my [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang. Who are some of your favorite Marvel villains? Who is someone who would have no particular qualms about harassing people and hiring locals to his/her dirty work? I just stumbled across John Bushmaster on the Marvel wiki and he sounds pretty hardcore.

Also, who are some old-school awesome female characters? Like Peggy Carter, who were around and kicking ass a few decades earlier?

My knowledge of comics is woefully lacking.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hrm.

Sadly, a good deal of my comics knowledge is more from the X-men end of the spectrum, and my Avengers knowledge is pretty darn limited. I'm actually a bit more familiar with the Fantastic Four than I am Avengers.

And as for Old School Awesome Female Characters, that's a hard one. If just because Marvel hasn't really done a Golden-Age/Silver-Age/Modern Age reboot the same way DC did. They've only really been a "real" company since the 1960's, although they did adapt/take in the licensing for Sgt. Fury. As such, there weren't a lot of "mentor" like female characters. I mean, the X-Men got a reboot (kind of?) in the early 80's, but that added more adult characters, so despite Storm being a second-gen character to the team, she's actually older than Jean Grey.

I mean, there's always Mystique and Destiny (best lesbian couple ever!) Destiny being the old lady who ALWAYS knows EVERYTHING. And Blind Al (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Al) is pretty amazing. (Remind me to go on about Deadpool, at length, some day.) And Monica Rambeau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Rambeau) is not necessarily "older", but she's pretty great. And she was leader of the Avengers for a while!

Oh, Monica is kind of fabulous. And she's based on Pam Grier? Holy crap. *flails*

I was basically looking for someone that Darcy's grandmother could be based on. I'm still digging the Sharon Gless angle and she's going to be friends with Val and I wanted to see if there was an existing character I could use. However, I'm totally cool with making it all up.

Hmmmm.... Monica is just badass...

Ooh, which end of the Marvel universe? If it's SHIELD, for awesome female characters of an earlier generation I recommend Nick Fury's badass girlfriend, the Contessa (http://marvel.wikia.com/Valentina_Allegra_de_Fontaine_%28Earth-616%29). Over in the X-Men, Moira MacTaggart (http://marvel.wikia.com/Moira_MacTaggert!) is brains rather than brawn, but doesn't hesitate to pick up a gun or beat the crap out of Cyclops when the occasion calls for it. And of course in the comics Black Widow was born in the 1930s.

For villains with hired thugs there are the various gimmicky crime bosses, ranging from Kingpin (http://marvel.wikia.com/Kingpin!) (basically, Mafia supremo) to Madame Masque (http://marvel.wikia.com/Madame_Masque!) (industrial espionage -- she's an Iron Man villain, unsurprisingly) to the Vanisher (http://marvel.wikia.com/Vanisher!) (very old-school X-Men villain who is seldom written consistently, but has dabbled in drugs and organised crime).

Iron Man also has various evil corporate types, notably Obadiah Stane and Justin Hammer (both of them very different to how they are in the films), and a few Evil Commies (Natasha used to be one, but reformed after discovering the glories of Capitalism). You probably don't want the Red Ghost (http://marvel.wikia.com/Red_Ghost!) and the Super-Apes, though. Any of these would not be above hiring locals.

Oh, and hi. I, uh, kind of friended you a week or so ago, because you looked interesting. I hope that's okay.

I LOVE VAL! I've totally got her already in my story. (She's going to be mayor. I know, random, but it will all make sense. At some point.)

There is always Justin Hammer. Hmmm...

Thank you! This is a great list and the perfect place to start.

And yay! I'm always up for new friends. :D

There is definitely Justin Hammer as a "normal" tech villian in for sheer rivalry with Stark. Victor Von Doom also liked blowing pretty much everything to kingdom come - he bounced back and forth from bugging SHIELD to the Fantastic Four pretty regularly. He's in the current FF movies too if you wanted a more "current" version of him maybe.

As far as badass ladies, I know Maria Hill is a major player, but she's more in this time line than in the past time line. Otherwise it was mostly Peggy Carter, or possibly Maria who married Tony Stark. Maria was the blonde who totally jumped Steve Rogers in the movie apparently lol

I wish I could help you but my comic reading is sadly lacking as well. :(

I don't know any of the women and the only villain I know for sure is Victor von Doom - aka Dr. Doom - and I'm using him in my crossbigbang for the sheer pleasure of having Nathan (or Duke - I'm easy) say to Stark: "Dr. Doom? Really? Is that best he could do?"

Yes, I'm easily amused - why do you ask? :D

just wondering...does Doom reply "Yes, it was a stark choice." ?
:D

...bwahahahaha!!

Now I'm sorry Dr. Doom is only mentioned in the story and not an actual character!!

That's priceless! :D
