He's forever giving her hard candy after a near brush with death. Telling her to open wide, while his hand cups her cheek, and he places a small sweet on her tongue and closes her mouth for her with a gentleness that shouldn't surprise her, but always does. It isn't until the sixth time he does this little ritual that it occurs to her that he probably needs the comfort of helping her, of making sure she's healthy, just as much as she does.
