Just catching up with two!
Day 14 → A non-fictional book
The Other Florida by Gloria Jahoda. This is not your Walt Disney, Miami South Beach Florida. This is the Panhandle, where live oak trees can grow as big as your house (we've had two fall in my back yard due to hurricanes!). This is a fabulous book about where I grew up. I was born in the tail end of what this book is describing. Sadly, a lot of these places have been paved over, 'modernized', etc., but so much of it still remains. It's also very, very well-written and half the time, if I hadn't seen it for myself, you might think it was fiction! If you want an example of how to write a historical, travelogue, this is it.
Did you know that the man who invented air conditioning came from Appalachicola, Florida? And the Garden of Eden is only an hour away from Tallahassee. True story. ;D
Day 15 → A fanfic
I'm going to give you two!
1. North Sea by Punctuator.
A sequel to 28 Days Later (movie), starting right where the original ends. Jim, Selena, and Hannah take a helicopter ride straight into a vortex of intrigue, fear, pursuit, and revenge, from West Yorkshire to the end of the world.
This is such a well-written story. The action scenes are incredible, the dialogue wonderful and there are some great OCs. It's Jim/Selena exactly how it should be.
2. Falcon and Falconer by Praefecta.Praetorio
He doesn’t trust politicians. She thinks the Jedi are indifferent to the suffering of individuals. Too bad they’re about to fall in love. An AU Obidala romance.
Can we say hot? This is hot. Steamy, sensual, with a plot! You will fall in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi all over again. Obi-wan/Padme all the way. It's a WIP, but you still manage to get your money's worth. :D
