March 3 (belated) - McCoy/Chapel!
Mar. 4th, 2015 08:02 amThis is my March 3 entry for redbrunja about my long and abiding love for McCoy/Chapel. I'm sorry this is delayed, the house wifi is out and LJ is currently looking kinda dodgy on my office computer, so we'll see if this even works.
McCoy/Chapel! My forever pairing! *sighs*
Right. Well, reasons for adoring them, let me count the ways.
1. Shallow Seren is pretty darn shallow. Karl Urban is a delight on the eyes and I'm not ashamed to say that he's a tall, drink of New Zealand water that I enjoy thinking about.
2. Christine Chapel is my kind of woman. She's smart, capable, loyal, and when this woman falls in love, she gives it her all. She signed on to a 5 year mission in the hope that she'd find her missing fiance (in the original series). When she finds him and he turns out to be a robot jerkface, she takes care of business and then goes on to have an amazing career in Starfleet as Head Nurse on the Enterprise and the Director of Operations. She's awesome. She's practical. I adore her.
3. The potential for snark and sympathy. These two just spark off of each other, but they also know how hard it is doing what they do and I can just see the evenings drinking whatever swill Scotty's managed to create and not talking about their days.
4. They're older. In the reboot, McCoy is essentially a mature student and (in my headcanon) so is Chapel. They've been around the block once or twice and they have a hesitancy that's fun to explore.
5. From a fic-writing POV, it's fun having Chapel be a bit of a blank slate. It gives you a lot of freedom to play with her.
6. They honestly just make me so darn happy.
