Well, I finally saw the Avengers last night! It was pretty damn awesome. I have a few reactions which I will put beneath a cut.
NEVER TELL JOSS WHEDON WHO YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IS BECAUSE HE IS A BAD, BAD MAN AND WILL KILL THEM. That being said, I SO do not think Phil Coulson is dead. Fury faked that out to manipulate the others.
In regards to that, I was NOT expecting Fury to be quite so manipulative. I was...pleasantly surprised by that? It just gives him a few more dimensions (and is totally why Val has to leave him in my story).
Everyone is ridiculously pretty. I mean...damn.
MORE BLACK WIDOW.
MORE BRUCE BANNER.
MORE HAWKEYE. I was not expecting him to go all brainwashed, but that was pretty awesome.
Loki. Well, clearly Tom Hiddleston was having a blast. You could just tell, which made me enjoy his performance. And I'm sympathetic towards his character, but he needs to be held very accountable.
PEPPER! Oh, Pepper I've missed you. I loved how they kept her in flats and she calls Coulson 'Phil' and oh. That was lovely. I liked that a lot.
I went to see it with a bunch of physics students and there was much groaning and snickering around the science speak.
I was also told that I was the best person to go see a movie with. I looked over at my husband and said, "What? Why?" And he said, "Well, you were smiling and reacting a lot." I said, "No! I thought I was being good and cool?" He shook his head. Apparently not. Hee! It was my idea to go see it in the first place, so I am completely unrepentant. :D
All in all, a very fun movie. Even if you're not into comic book characters, it's terribly good, the action is amazing to watch and the dialogue is fabulous.
Eeeee! I wanna see it again!

Date: 2012-05-10 01:14 pm (UTC)Oh, and I would watch an entire movie that was nothing but Hawkeye and the Black Widow running around, being awesome and referencing past missions.

Date: 2012-05-11 12:08 am (UTC)I have to give Joss credit, though, he knows how to have lots of people in an ensemble and give them all very good coverage. The only person I felt was slightly short-changed was Hawkeye, and that was because he only had a score or so of lines for the first half of the movie, thanks to Loki's spell.
I know I missed at least a third of the wonderful Joss dialogue, too. (A couple of jewels: "Was I the only one who did the homework?" & "I got that reference!") I really want to go see it again so I hear it all again & can cackle at the Hulk pounding Loki into the ground! The whole theater cracked up at that!
I have to admit, though, that I have less sympathy for Loki (as portrayed in the movie) than many fic writers. I thought his rant at Natasha about having Hawkeye destroy her was incredibly malicious. I'm so proud of her for pwning him in the same scene, though! I like the fanfic Loki a bit better, but movie-Loki deserves some nastiness. (Now if Odin could just get spanked, too, for his being an arse. {grump})

Date: 2012-05-11 12:30 am (UTC)Seriously freaking so much love for that film! And yeah, totally riding a boat down Da Nile with Coulson hanging out. You are welcome to join me, of course lol.
And just... gah there really are not enough words for me to properly express my incoherancy towards all the things and the feels and the epic amount of arm porn. *swoons*

Date: 2012-05-11 03:33 am (UTC)Like you, I refuse to believe that Phil is dead. I mean, he might be, but it's kinda like Gail Simon and DC going "okay, people, seriously: if Bruce can keep coming back from the dead, then Babs is getting her legs back."
Also, I would like to point out my monumental disappointment that Kat Denning was not in the movie - and I blame you for that expectation. :)

Date: 2012-05-11 06:11 am (UTC)Oh, Loki. Any sympathy I had for Loki in Thor is pretty much gone. I enjoyed his character and the actor playing him is delightful, but seriously. Lock that dude up.

Date: 2012-05-11 06:15 am (UTC)Ahahaha! I'm almost glad Darcy wasn't in it, if only because I have this idea of her and I don't want it to be ruined? I think she's in Thor 2, however.
