and i'd give up forever
Nov. 6th, 2015 09:31 amHi! Hello! How’s it going? (/end Vaughn from Community greeting – I miss that show!)
I have been meaning to type up a post for two weeks now and just haven’t been able to drum up enough energy to do it. So…hi!
I have things!
1. I started the new job and so far, so good. I’m basically office managing a small (very small!) company that sells kits to farmers that can analyse for intestinal parasites. Nice, right? I actually don’t mind. My first job was as a receptionist at an animal hospital and I’ve done my fair share of fecal samples. This is just a bit more involved and with sheep. The cool thing, though? The company is actually based in New Zealand and this is their European branch. I’ve had a couple of Skype sessions with the NZ group and they’re delightful! Sooo, there could be a trip to NZ in my future? Maybe? Who knows!
The ‘eh’ part of the job is that everyone in the building (a converted farmhouse with a sheep breeding company plus my group) eats lunch together. *sighs* I like eating my lunch on my own, but I got the impression that the person I replaced did that too and was sort of side-eyed for it. Argh. We’ll see. Everyone’s very nice, they really are. Just, um, boring? Hopefully, the more I get to know them (and about sheep) the more interesting they’ll get. Or I’ll get. I don’t know.
I do, however, get to work in the middle of a farm and there are gorgeous green hills everywhere I look and I actually have a window by my desk! A small one, but an actual window. Plus! I can wear whatever I want! Jeans and casual trousers FTW!
2. I went to see Crimson Peak last night with my sis-in-law. I loved it. I really, really did. I’m not sure if she did. I think she went more to have a few hours away from my nephew. That sounds awful. It’s not. She just wanted to go out. And no one else would see it with me. I seriously really enjoyed it. The colours, the playing with the Gothic Romance trope, all of it. It was a bit too violent, for me to say it’s a perfect film. I don’t mind scares, but knock it off with the violence.
3. Yuletide! I love my match! I managed to quickly bash out about 1,000 words of it already and it’s the fluffiest thing I think I’ve ever written. I can’t believe it.
4. Writing on the novel-thing, however, has stalled – BIG TIME. I don’t know what happened. Probably just a bit of a slow spot, it’ll get better. I just have hit an honest to goodness wall with it. I’m now just playing with the characters and writing things that happened to them before the novel’s events. It’s helping.
5. I’m still on a baking kick. I’m making a Coconut Cream Date Pie this weekend because it looks weird and fun. Last weekend was my go-to apple and honey cake which we ate while watching the rugby. Has anyone else watched the world cup? I know rugby’s not really an American sport, but I’m really enjoying it. Which is odd as I’m not a sports person at all. But rugby? Bring it!
I hope everyone’s doing well! Happy Friday! ♥

Date: 2015-11-06 03:17 pm (UTC)I'm glad the job is going well. I like eating lunch alone, too. I'm an introvert so I need time away from people to recharge my batteries. Otherwise, as job's go, it sounds good.
It's great that you love your Yuletide match. I miss Yuletide excitement but it's good that I opted out. I might write a pinch hit or treat if I see something I could do justice to.

Date: 2015-11-06 04:26 pm (UTC)I'm right there with you on awesome Yuletide matches - haven't gotten started on mine quite yet, but ideas are definitely percolating away!
And sorry the writing is stalling a bit - maybe write later events in the novel to keep moving? That way the words you're writing will still be useful later on?

Date: 2015-11-07 10:08 am (UTC)I think the job is going to work out. My boss really needs someone to organize stuff, but hates letting other people do stuff. So I'm trying to figure out the best way to get him to let go of tasks without being too bolshy. It's a fine line...
I know so many people who are just doing treats this year! I love the idea of treats, it's such a nice thing to do.

That's sort of my problem? I've already done that and now I'm stuck trying to figure out how I get from one point to the other. It's that darn middle bit that's giving me trouble.
