This may be just me.

But, does anyone else, when watching a new movie or tv show, begin to think of the characters in terms of whether or not they'd be represented well in fanfic? Or, in other words, I have a tendency to watch stuff with fanfic glasses on. I end up spotting little details or random lines of dialogue that would be a good basis for a story. WHILE I'M ACTUALLY WATCHING SAID FILM OR SHOW.

Or is this one of those revelations that everyone else has already had or am I being weird?

In other news, it won't stop raining. And I'm suddenly in the mood for Christmas. I have plans that involve baking. And I need a wreath.

I've totally done that. I don't do it all the time, but sometimes it'll totally jump out and bite me. Heck, I've done it with previews (I spent the entire preview for the new Sherlock Holmes movie going omgomgomgtheficpotential!omgomgomg!)

So you may be weird, but it's not just you. ;-)

Definitely not alone. When watching a movie, I like to predict what kind of reaction fandom will give for a particular moment.

Like in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, when Elizabeth kissed Captain Jack. It was obvious to me that it was just drama for the Elizabeth/Will relationship, but I knew that kiss would open a floodgate for the pairing as the "new canon."

Also, in the Watchmen movie, as soon as we got a shot of Rorschach's naked biceps tearing strips of cloth, I knew that all his politics, sexism, hygiene issues and violent tendencies would be forgotten in favor of setting him up as an ideal romantic partner.

Its almost like a drinking game, only without the booze.

Anyway, I don't think its abnormal to see moments to develop further while watching the movie/show. Inspiration strikes when it decides to.

I've always done that. I think it's pretty common in writers.

I'm in a Christmas news too. I just drove home from school and saw a Christmas tree tent.

:]

Exactly! I've just started actually watching Stargate and NCIS having read the fic for awhile, and I just keep seeing these little things. 'Oh, Jack would so have something to say to Carter after watching her do that', etc.

And I really know what you're talking about regarding Sherlock Holmes. Not only is the Holmes/Watson vibe there, part of me wants to cast Gwyneth Paltrow (aka Pepper Potts) as Mrs. Hudson. Or something. :D

Oh, yeah. I love little moments like the kiss in Pirates, I could pretty much hear the 'squee' from certain corners of the fandom.

Word. I'm afraid of the types of plot bunnies that might take over if I was imbibing.

It's actually rather fun to see all the potential works a movie or tv show can produce! I think that's why I love fanfic so much. We actually get to participate, albeit at a distance, in the world.

I'm so ready for Christmas. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving, but this year... Bring it on!

Hmm. I don't really do that for writing, but I do that for icon making, seeing a shot that would make a perfect icon, or a line of dialogue that would work on an icon. I usually think of the fanfic stuff later when I'm not watching. This may be related to the fact that so far I've spent more time making icons than writing fic.

Most definitely.

Haha, yes. My mom was asking me the other day if we should get our tree before thanksgiving because she just can't wait.

Oh, I could definitely see that happening. I think I've even done the dialogue thing a few times.
