I'm actually quite psyched for Yuletide. I took a look at the nominated fandoms and there are quite a few I feel confident in writing and some that I really want to request. I haven't had to nominate anything 'cause everything I'd want is already there. Except for Centurion, because apparently I have no shame.

I'm also DONE with my Big Bang. I'm going to do one last proof over the weekend, but I don't think I can look at it any more. *sighs*

And I'll go ahead and admit it: I'm totally posting just to use my new icon. This is werewolf!Evan after a really long night.

Speaking of the story that has taken over my brain, have another snippet as it appears to not be going away any time soon.

Title: Actuarially...
Word Count: 600

This takes place just a few days after Evan arrived on Hannah's porch.

It was a typical Friday night at the Sheep and Crow, filled to the brim with people looking for a good drink and relaxed evening. It had been about a week since Evan had stumbled onto Hannah’s porch and into this odd little community of Cwm Alaw. People had been surprisingly accepting of him. Granted, not everyone knew what he was and what he turned into during a full moon, but those who did seemed to think it was something to explore and not something to fear.

God, he hoped he wasn’t something to fear.

He’d spent the last few nights in Hannah’s spare room and while a part of him wanted to stay, another knew he needed to go.

However, in order to do that...

“Well, I reckon I need to find some sort of gainful employment,” Evan said staring at the head of his Guinness. Hannah glanced his way while pulling a pint of Brains for Gareth (greengrocer’s by trade, telekinetic by the grace of God or some deity with a sense of humor) at the other end of the bar.

“I’m getting the impression that you can’t go back to where you came from?” she asked handing the pint over. Gareth gave her a wink and Hannah waggled her finger at him. “Knock it off. What would Rwth think?”

Gareth trundled off to join the other men yelling at the tv in the corner. Hannah wandered over to Evan who was still staring at his untouched bitter.

“No,” he said quietly. “I really don’t think I can go back.”

“Something happened?” she asked propping her elbows on the bar in front of him. He looked up at met her eyes. He quirked a corner of his mouth and then took a long drink. She nodded. “Right. Something happened. Fair enough. Well, what did you do previously?”

“I’m a certified accountant.”

Hannah laughed. “Ha! Good one. No, really, what were you?”

“It’s the truth. I’m an accountant,” he said with the hint of a smile on his face.

“You’re taking the mick,” she said.

Evan just shook his head and smiled.

“Really? An accountant who’s also a werewolf?” she said, blinking. “Well, that’s a new one.”

“Is there a need in the village for a man who’s good with numbers?” he asked.

“There is always a need for a man who has a way with his digits,” Hannah replied with a wink and a grin. Evan felt a corresponding grin start on his face. “And as it so happens, I think there is a vacancy in the actuarial field. The fellow who used to do my, and most everyone’s taxes, Mr. Fields is no longer with us.”

Evan frowned. “I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Oh, not like that!” Hannah said quickly. “I just meant that he’s, um, moved on.”

“He left town?” Evan asked as he started to get that feeling he always got whenever he was told about something that was usually out of his purview.

“Well, more like he left this plane,” she said.

“Plane?”

“Of existence.”

“Right, of course.” Evan pursed his lips, then asked, “Do I want to know?”

Hannah patted his hand. “Probably not just yet. Give it another couple of weeks of the tangibly weird stuff and then we might try you out on the metaphysically weird stuff.”

“Thank you,” he said. “I appreciate the chance to hold onto my narrow-minded worldview for just a little bit longer.”

“Anytime,” Hannah said. She gave him a quick grin and then left him to make a gin and tonic for Mrs. Hughes, who, if Evan looked close enough, appeared to have slightly pointed ears.

Evan took a very long drink of his Guinness.

Yay Yuletide!

I don't think I've mentioned how much I love this whole Teeth, Claws and Guiness thing yet, so I'm doing it now. Each installment makes me smile so much.

I'm so excited for Yuletide! Eeee! There are some great fandoms already nominated.

And thank you! I'm having a lot of fun writing these. I sort of can't stop. :D

Hopefully by only signing up to one thing this year I won't leave it until the last minute and then realise a few days before the deadline that I haven't even thought about a beta *facepalm*. You really saved my life last year.
