Hi! Hello! Howdy!

Life. Oh, life. So, the biggest thing is that I got a promotion. It's kind of cool! I'm now project management support for this big piece of legislation that has to be implemented throughout the county and I'm going to be the person on the other end of the phone telling people (nicely) to please get your stuff done. Eeeeee! There's a raise an everything. I'm a little frazzled. *twitches*

I've just started watching BBC's Musketeers and it's DELIGHTFUL.

I...have not been writing, which sucks. So... MEME!

This one got a little long! Steve/Darcy - she's tougher than she looks

When Steve reaches Dr. Foster's lab after the klazons went off and the immediate threat of Hydra agents were contained, Darcy's standing.

Her hands are shaking and her eyes are huge against the paleness of her face, but she's on her feet.

A Hydra agent lies twitching on the floor at her feet, his gun hanging from his limp hand. There's an odd thumping coming from the closet behind Darcy, but Steve ignores it to focus on the young woman in front of him.

"Miss Lewis? Darcy?" he asks and her gaze moves immediately to him.

She blinks a couple of times, then manages a crooked smirk. "I guess Tony wasn't kidding around when he said he'd upgrade my taser?"

"Tony never kids about upgrades," Steve says kicking the Hydra agent's gun away from the body that is still twitching every thirty seconds or so. "Are you okay?"

"Well, my head's still attached and there's a nice lack of bullet holes in the lab and Jane's in one piece in the storage closet, so, um, yes?" she says all in one big ramble.

"Dr. Foster's in the closet?" Steve asks.

"Yes!" a muffled yell comes from the closet. "She's in the closet and would like to be let out now, thank you very much!"

"Yeah, yeah," Darcy says rolling her eyes. A pale pink flush is spreading across her cheeks and her eyes are quite so round. Steve notices that she's a little stiff as she walks towards the closet. Adrenaline aftermath, he reckons.

She's wearing that dark orange scarf today, the one that brings out the red highlights in her hair and he figures that if she can take down a trained Hydra agent with a simple taser (Stark enhancements notwithstanding), then Steve can match her bravery.

"Do you like funnel cake?" he blurts out.

She looks at him over her shoulder and says, "Um, of course? It's dough that's been deep-fried. That's a Lewis family food group all on it's own. Why?"

"I was planning to check out Coney Island this weekend to see what they've changed since I was last there," he says. "Would you like to come with me?"

"It's because I tased that guy, right?" Darcy says grinning. "My mad tasering skills have totally made an impression."

"That and your eyes," he says shrugging. "You've got gorgeous eyes."

Said eyes widen as she looks at him.

"So, what do you say?" he asks.

"Say 'yes'!" Jane whispers loudly from the closet.

"Yes," Darcy says starting to grin. "You can buy me a corn dog, too."

Fabulous! I love that she bravely stuffed Jane into a cupboard before tasing the bad guy. One of these days I'd like to see a fic where Jane uses her knowledge of physics to ward off a bad guy or two, though.

What is a corn dog? I keep meaning to ask you this! Is it like a sausage in batter?

That is precisely what it is. It's dipped in cornbread batter, so it's not quite like a deep-fried thing, but pretty close. It's lighter than a flour batter and can be just lovely and fluffy(ish). They're wonderful with some mustard.
