In five minutes, it will be 6pm and I can have a beer. (I have a rule - no alcohol until after 6pm. It's a thing, I don't know.)

Soooo, I didn't get to take this afternoon off - I had to run an extension of the experiment we've been doing all week, plus have a meeting with my boss so he could give me a list of stuff to do next week while he's off.

Oh, God, I have so much to do. On the plus side - I'm taking ALL of next Tuesday off. I plan to have a massage (with a lovely woman who also does aromatherapy and is so reasonably priced) and sit in a cafe and read and write all day. It's a Me Day. I'm looking forward to it.

Jenny Crusie was talking on her blog the other day about Discovery Drafts and I feel like that's what my Het Big Bangs end up being. They're the bare bones of something that I really should go back and expand upon, but that's often where I run into a block. How do you slow down and actually expand on something? I don't know how to elaborate and draw things out. Which leads me to wondering what I could do for a Het Big Bang this year that would be helpful for me in the long run. What's an idea that I could expand on? (I'm still eyeing Karen Page and Frank Castle but maybe he's a ghost? Or maybe they end up traveling together for some reason? I don't know.)

This leads me to my next question - (and I may have asked this before) - but what is everyone's opinion on the filing off of fanfic serial numbers and re-jigging fic for publishing purposes?

Eee! It's 6pm! There's a Corona in the fridge with my name on it and I even have limes!

Happy Friday! ♥

Random weekdays off are SO NICE. Actually getting to accomplish personal things on a non-weekend is just so decadent feeling.

And as far as filing off serial numbers, I think it depends on the fic. Serious AUs I definitely think can work - (your's in particular could be great as long as it's not the obvious ATeam one - cuz then it's an AU of another fandom LOL) - they just would need to be expanded. I've seen it done really well, and I've seen it done not so great. Just depends on how much work you are willing to do to expand past the canon specific elements, you know? But yeah, it's a good chunk of word count that could be used to maybe publish with.

I think I'm going to do an in depth look at my McCoy/Chapel AU and see if I can't do something with it. I might even try to merge it with an original thing I'm working on, as a sort of small town romance series. I think if I re-jig it the way I'm thinking, it will be it's own thing, but a good portion of the action will have already been written. It's been so long since I wrote that, I think I'd feel good about changing it.

Ugh, I can't WAIT until my day off!

That was definitely the one I was thinking of - it feels so much like it's 'own' thing that it could be expanded and merged into original very easily - that or the new Hobbit AU, though I think that one is a little bit shorter. But the ghostly creepy vibe could be a blast, though I don't know if you want to do semi-period pieces long term or not?

Honestly, if you want to try something, I could go back and FINISH the hard beta for that A-Team Clint/Darcy story. It bugged me that we ran into a time deadline with that because while it was good, I felt like it really needed an extra couple go-throughs. Also, a thing to do is don't write for THIS het-big-bang. Write for NEXT het bigbang. Start working on it now, nail down a couple beta's and have your draft deadline as the hbb deadline. Not to post, but be DONE w/the draft. Then spend some honest, long-ass time! And when the next deadline rolls around, you have one finished and ready to go!

Mind you, that sounds amazing, but Life Happens and what not. I still haven't written anything since December, so I will never wag or point a finger. <3

I'm thinking of playing about with that McCoy/Chapel AU I wrote a few years back set in the small town. I think there's something I can expand on there and maybe link it to the original thing I'm writing. I liked writing Christine and I now see Mayor!Jim as a Justin Trudeau-type dude. :D

I'd love to do Het Big Bang this year, but I think I'm going to have to pass. I just don't have the time or the energy these days. I'm also a little worried about the Heroine Big Bang. No one has heard from the mod in weeks and we never had our check-in. Evie and her adventures may have to wait...

I feel fine about people filing off the serial numbers as long as they don't take down the original fanfic story. If they do that, I get irritated. Dearest writer person, Please invent SOMETHING ORIGINAL and leave my favorite fics alone.

I know what you mean! Archive of Our Own now has an 'orphan work' feature, so the work stays online, but just gets disconnected from the author, which I think is a great option for folks who don't want to necessarily be attached to their fic, but want to keep it online.
