30 Day Meme

Day 03 → Your favourite television programme.

Hoo, boy.

I honestly don't watch much tv these days. I've got a few shows that I like and those I watch. The main reason is because I don't actually have a television in my house and haven't for going on five years now. (ILU interwebs!)

So, today, I'm going to focus on the ones that have stuck with me through the years, that never get old and that I just plain love. I've narrowed it down to five.

1. Twin Peaks

Oh, I was so into this series when I was a kid. I was 11 when it came out and I'd stay up late on Saturday nights after my parents had gone to bed watching this. I'd then run up the stairs after it was over and I had to turn the lights out, because I was positive Bob was just waiting to get me. Heck, I rewatched it a year ago and I still ran up the stairs to my bed.

This show set the tone and the stage for shows like The X-Files, Buffy, Lost, I even saw an article on Salon.com stating that Glee was this generation's Twin Peaks. I'm not sure I'd go that far, personally, but I see the point.

I loved the setting, the people, the diner, I have an incredible fondness for cherry pie due to this show. It plays with your emotions, taking you up into comedy one minute and then down into despair the next. I'm actually exceedingly glad there are only two seasons of this show. If it had gone on, I doubt the flavor would have held up.

So, now, I give you a clip with my favorite FBI Agent, Dale Cooper explaining his methods.

Did I mention that there is a cross-dressing David Duchovny in later episodes?

2. Remington Steele

This is my go to show for quirky, mad-cap, rom-com, mysteries. It has a formula and they stuck to it and I loved every minute of it. I wanted to be Laura Holt and wear a fedora and solve mysteries. If a Pierce Brosnan happened to come my way in the process, I certainly wouldn't have said 'no'.

Here is the opening intro.

*sighs*

3. QI

Stephen Fry and Alan Davies. Need I say more?

It is scary how often I find myself spouting a bit of trivia that I know can be directly related back to this show.

4. Spaced

I actually discovered this show when I moved to the UK. It's hilarious and sparked my love for Simon Pegg. The sheer amount visual gags is just fantastic. An episode of this show always cheers me up.

And, as always, I've got some fucking Jaffa Cakes in my coat pocket.

Here is a rather funny promo.

5. Community

This is the new kid on the block. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but folks were talking about it. So, I gave it a chance.

I like it.

It's funny, it's clever, it's so meta your brain will hurt. It's honestly one of the best ensemble casts I've seen in ages.

Here's a tiny clip of Troy and Abed with their Spanish rap. Because, honestly, who didn't do this in Spanish?

That's all, folks!

I now badly want to watch some Reminton Steele! I had no idea that it was like that and it seems like so much fun. Plus Pierce Brosnan *swoons*

I adore Twin Peaks and Spaced. Someone had set up "Bob" as my computer password when I was watching Twin Peaks a couple of years ago and I got the creeps every time I entered it. The music was wonderful.

Remington Steele is amazing. It's very 80s and cheesy, but the mysteries are actually quite fun and the two leads are just lovely to watch. Oh, Pierce Brosnan. Yum.

The music of Twin Peaks has seriously stayed with me. So haunting and rather timeless. It still really stands up, even today. God, Bob. *shudders* Nightmares for life. Apparently the guy who played him was just some random fella on the set, like a carpenter or something.

80s and cheesy sounds great.

Yeah, I was just watching an interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ihzXsNJG1U&feature=related) about the creation of Bob. It almsot makes it even creepier.

I watched the series because of the music initially. My housemate kept playing it, and when I asked what it was she recommended the show.
