Okay. I'm fairly sure it was someone on my friend's list that was talking about Faking It by Jennifer Crusie and how funny it was. I saw it in a charity shop yesterday for 50p and thought that was a pretty good bargain.

How adorable is this book? Oh, my goodness gracious! The one-liners, the jukebox, STEVE! It has been added to my list of novels I wish I'd written.

Fave line (out of lots!): "People die in their beds, doesn't mean they don't hit the sheets."

Are her other novels this funny? 'Cause I'm off to the library if so.

BTW, is anyone not getting emails alerts when someone replies to a comment or post? Because, I know that someone replied to me yesterday and I still haven't received the alert in my email Inbox.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend!! I'm getting my hair cut. Short. Ish. Yeah. We'll see. If it's awful, it'll grow back and I have lots of hats. Right.

Her books are awesome! You have to read Bet Me next, it's a classic.

Jennifer Crusie is awesome; I have everything she's ever written, including some dodgy Harlequin novels. I think the Faking It talk might have been me; you should look for Welcome To Temptation as it introduces some of the characters in Faking It.

You can get her books very cheaply on Amazon marketplace, I've found.

Try Julia Quinn too, especially the Bridgerton novels. You'll love them.

Yay! Book recs! You're right, it may have been you, actually. It's the kind of dialogue that I wish I could write and I'm half tempted to try McCoy/Chapel in that vein. I think the Star Trek cast would lend themselves to it fairly well.

And Julia Quinn? I'm putting her on my list! Thanks!

Crusie's now writing wonderfully funny books with another author (I think it's Bob Mayer) that you should also pick up: Agnes and the Hitman and Don't Look Down. So much love for her writing.

Sounds like a author I need to read.

Libraries are awesome. You should go and make them busy. Of course, I say this as someone who is completely unbiased.

Ooooh haircut. Awesome.

Oh, I love libraries. Which leads me to ask if you're a librarian? If so, that's pretty cool! :D

The book I just finished by Crusie was wonderfully funny and fast-paced. I really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to trying out her other stuff.

And, yes. The haircut. Well, she went a bit shorter than I wanted, but I think I'm overall fairly pleased with it. It was past my shoulders and now it's just below my ears, so I've got to get used to it.

Yes, her novels are all that funny. Welcome to Temptation (my icon is from the cover), introduces Davy and is my favourite of her books. Anyone but you (aka Fred's book) is also excellent, if you liked Steve you'll enjoy it, Fred the Basset Hound steals the show from the human characters. It is one of her first books, and was originally a Mills and Boon/Harlequin but don't let that put you off.

And I'll second the recommedation of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton novels, her others are a little hit and miss.

Oh, cool! I love that everyone on my friends list likes this author. Talk about similar interests! *grins*

And Welcome to Temptation is in the library, so I know where I'm going at lunchtime. I'm also looking into Julia Quinn. Thanks!

Just a quick duck-in from someone who reads your McCoy/Chapel fic. I just wanted to raise my hand in the heavily pro-Jennifer Crusie bandwagon. She's also a pretty neat person all together. She's an English teacher at an Ohio University who wrote her first novel because she'd been doing some research/was going to teach a class on the phenomenon of the romance novel.

I'm also rather a fan of hers in that she likes to use uncommon romance novel heroines. Namely women over a Certain Age, women who don't want kids, women who HAVE kids, lager women, and the like. Plus, her dialogue is VERY snappy and fun.

Hi! and Welcome!

I think it was her unconventional heroines in Faking It that made me like it so much. It's always a delightful surprise when I read something with a spirited woman of a Certain Age being fun and intelligent and, dare I say it, acknowledging their sex drive. Life does not end after you turn 30 or 40 or 50, etc, and it's so nice to read Crusie and see that she agrees!

She sounds very awesome as well! Her dialogue just makes me smile.
