Oh, wow - this has been...a month. Let's just leave it at that! Anyhoo! If you have a snippet you'd like to share - go for it!
“What brings you to the library?” Rowena asked. “In need of a library card?”
“Definitely,” she said pulling out her change purse. “And are you set up to access some of the national databases? I’ve got log-ins and ids for a few of them.”
“We do in the office,” Rowena said. “Let me just check with Arwel that you’re okay to use them. You can definitely use the computers in the main rooms to access the web. Let me guess, your wireless is less than ideal?”
Nora glanced at Alec who set his jaw and she replied, “You could say that.”
Rowena grinned and nodded. “It’s the same the village over. Some folks say it’s the mountains, or the wind, I think it’s the ley lines.”
“Ley lines?” Nora asked frowning. “I thought those were…”
“A myth?” Rowena said grinning. “You were myth-taken!”
Nora snickered. “How long have you been waiting to use that quote?”
“Far longer than I should even admit to,” Rowena said.

Date: 2016-11-27 07:42 pm (UTC)Pressure built within the circle, and I could see the strain on my aunt’s face as she struggled against the rising darkness seeping from the heron’s feathers, all but dripping onto the table cloth like oil escaping a tanker. Outside the water curtain, I could hear voices getting louder as my family tried to fight for us, trying to decide which answer was safer: dropping the circle and risking the infectious magic escaping to enter a human instead of an animal, to taint one of my loved ones with this foulness, this pollutive power.
I knew which answer I wanted them to choose. A look to Aunt Anima’s determined face said she knew the same one. “We have to contain it!” I yelled, struggling to get my voice out against the choking pressure. “We have to keep them safe!”
