Seren's got a poll for you! Yay!

So! I'm compiling fics to rec over at het_reccers and I'm noticing a couple of things about the fics that I enjoy. For example, I tend to like odd pairings and very long stories. A lot of the fics I've saved are chaptered and quite epic. This got me to thinking about my own writing and stories.

I was considering my writing goals for this year and I've finally settled on them. I'm not going to focus too much on word count as I still don't know where I'm going to end up in the next few months. Instead, I'm focusing on research and original fic. Yep. You heard me. I'd like to write more original stuff and so I'm afraid the TCG 'verse is going to be around for a while. I'm also going to try to be more selective about stuff I write, take more time with the ideas, and do some bloody research.

You know how sometimes you read something and just go: "Wow. That was so intelligent. Everything fit together so well." Well, that's what I'm aiming for.

I think. This is of course, liable to change if the wind blows in a certain direction, so we'll see.

This is really unhelpful and probably tldr - but I like all types of fic. Sometimes all I want is long stuff, sometimes I mostly read short stuff, sometimes I want really well thought out gen, sometimes I want hot, hot, hot fic. I don't really mind.

I was analyzing my delicious account (there were pie charts and everything) a couple of months ago and I found that the majority of stories were either pg-13 or nc-17 (equal numbers of both) and I also had approximately equal numbers of gen, het and slash fics saved. I don't sort by word count so I'm not sure about that. I should really get round to doing that post!

Recently I've been reluctant to start fics that I know are long, because I will stay up half the night, or accidently extend my lunch hour when I read them. And I've been burned by unfinished WIPs too often. The only long fics that I've read recently have all had short prequels and I've got sucked in despite myself. I used to prefer long fic and they are always the ones that I will remember most clearly. When tabacoychanel asked me for my favourite fics from any fandom - the older fandom recs were all really long.

No, that's pretty much how it goes for me, too. WIPs plague me like you wouldn't believe, so I try to stay away until they're finished.

I'm really in favour of anything, it truly does depend on my mood. Hmm...
