Yes, I just quoted Adele. If you haven't watched her do carpool karaoke with James Corden, you are missing on a delightful 15 minutes.

Well, things! It's been awhile, hasn't it?

1. Brexit. I have thoughts and opinions and none of them complimentary towards the UK government at present. I don't really even know where to start. I have a feeling this is going to drag on and on and we're all going to be in uncertain waters for quite some time.

2. Shows I'm watching: Preacher - holy crap this show is NUTS. I'm enjoying it? Maybe 'enjoying' is the wrong word. 'I can't seem to look away' is probably more accurate.

Penny Dreadful - I HAVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS AND I AM SO ANGRY AT THE SERIES FINALE. SO. ANGRY.

3. What I'm reading: I just finished 'On Writing' by Stephen King which was actually a re-read and 'Furiously Happy' by Jenny Lawson which made me laugh out loud several times. It also made me think and that's always good.

I just started 'Wales' by Jan Morris who is a fantastic travel writer. Definitely look her up.

I also just started 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman and I'm really enjoying it.

4. I'm still trying to get back into the writing groove and am four chapters into a Houdini and Doyle fic. I don't even know. It's fun and I'm just letting myself write.

5. I don't really have a number five - Happy Tuesday! ♥

Things I'm Watching, Reading and Writing Wednesday!

Watching: RE: The new Star Wars trailer - I'm going to go on record and say that I do NOT trust JJ Abrams with the new Star Wars movie further than I can throw him. I am approaching the whole thing with extreme caution and very tempered enthusiasm. I am STILL not over the travesty that was the most recent Star Trek movie. That being said, John Boyega is amazing and I hope he gets everything that is good in the world.

I'm still with From Dusk till Dawn and am actually a bit anxious about the season finale coming up.

I haven't watched the latest Lewis, but I will!

I think I'm taking me, myself and I to see Crimson Peak week after next when it finally gets to town. No one else is all that interested, although sis-in-law might be up for it, provided lil nephew lets her take the evening off. (My little nephew is the cutest thing! He's smiling now and he loves watching Auntie Seren make jazz hands above his head.)

Reading: I just re-read Maybe This Time by Jenny Crusie because it has ghosts in it and I'm trying to figure out how to actually write a novel-length story. The longest thing I've ever written was my Avengers are the A-Team Big Bang which clocked in at about 50,800 words. I'm up to 40,000 or so on the novel thing, which is probably okay? I still have a fair amount to write, I just feel like I'm missing something. Ah well, that's what editing is for.

Writing: The ghost story is still ongoing. I've run into a bit of a problem in that I'm not sure how to get from Point B to Point C. I've gotten from Point A to Point B, but the next bit is giving me issues. I may just skip it for now and write Point C and come back to the muddy bit.

How is everyone? Happy Wednesday! ♥

Reading: I just purchased Sorceror to the Crown by Zen Cho because I was told it was like Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell with lots of ladies and POC and magic! I haven't started it yet, but it'll be cracked open by the weekend.

I'm debating re-reading the Rivers of London series before the next book is released, but that may be optimistic of me.

I did just re-read Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman because the prose is lovely and I'm trying to improve my prose.

Watching: I am actually still keeping up with From Dusk Till Dawn. It has these moments that are really, really, really good. The dialogue is crisp and the acting is just plain fun. But then it goes a bit wonky and I just wonder if they just throw stuff in there because they think they have to. But the ladies are interesting and the mythology is kinda fun. Plus Esai Morales is having a blast being an awful, awful, AWFUL dude. Seriously, I'd only watch Esai Morales do what this dude's doing. No one else.

Lewis started up last night and it was quite good, I thought! Just how I like it: Robbie, Laura, James and Lizzie teasing each other while solving crime. Bring it!

Writing: The novel continues! I've written a grand total of nine chapters, maybe ten? A good bit of it is handwritten at present and my goal is to type all of that lot up by the weekend, so I can start fresh with the middle bit on Monday. But I have the first third or so done? I think? It feels like I do and it feels pretty darn great, to be honest. I may actually finish this thing! No one is more surprised than I am.

How is everyone? Happy Wednesday! ♥

Friday! Fings! Fings on a Friday!

1. I've spent the last couple of afternoons at the National Library of Wales which is, hands down, my favorite place in the world. I'm doing some research/writing of my original novel thing and it's been going pretty well. I love reading new stuff.

2. In other reading news, I just downloaded "The Shepherd Crown" by Terry Pratchett, his last (*wailywailywaily*) novel and Tiffany Aching book. I also dl'd "When a Scot Ties the Knot" by Tessa Dare because I love her romance novels. They're always a lovely mix of humor, drama, and sexytimes.

3. I frigged up my knee I think with these last few weeks of walking EVERYWHERE and moving EIGHT VERY LARGE, VERY HEAVY SUITCASES DOWN THE STAIRS. So. Ow, basically. I'm taking it a bit easy at the mo'.

4. Jurassic World is at the cinema this weekend, which I haven't seen, so I might go for the heck of it. I'm DEFINITELY going to see The Man from U.N.C.L.E when it comes next week. DEFINITELY.

5. It's so nice being in a house with a dog again. Even if said dog likes to hop onto the bed in the middle of the night and stand on my boobs and try to lick my face. It's the poodle version of:

*pokes* Are you awake? *pokes* Are you awake?
Well, I am NOW.
YAY! You're awake!

How is everyone?

Happy Friday!!! ♥

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] tanyareed has created a great reading comm where you can post what you've been reading. I just posted about The Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch (THANK YOU, [livejournal.com profile] fringedweller!!! I'm halfway through Moon over Soho!) and you should check the comm out! It's members' only and my post is here.

Check out [livejournal.com profile] l0ve0freading!

I'm compiling my 30 fics to rec over at [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers. I like the most bizarre pairings. Seriously. If it's unconventional, I am THERE. I also tend to like 'partner' fics. (Hello, X-Files, CSI:NY, In Plain Sight and Law and Order: CI!)

Sadly, I went to find two fics by the same author (one was Dani/Charlie from Life and the other was Lizzie/The Stranger from Dear Frankie) and I believe she's taken all her fic down. I can't for the life of me remember her penname. Bummer. *sadface*

I also had a dream last night in which my theory that watching the X-Files comes in handy. I was in a forest with all those little green bugs from that episode in the first season with the lumberjacks. (Strong, manly men in the peak of their manhood). ANYway, since I had seen the episode I knew exactly what to do. Stay in the light and don't panic.

All in all, a rather cool dream. I'm pretty sure I survived. Go me!

Happy Monday!!!

Well, it started raining last night at around midnight (just after I finished watching The Hunt for Red October, such a good film) and it hasn't stopped since. I went out briefly to go to the public library and it's the kind of rain that you don't bother with an umbrella for, it'll just get turned inside out. I swear, the rain in Wales defies all manner of gravitational properties, it can maneuver its way inside your jacket.

BUT! I was successful at the library and have beside me a cup of tea, Agatha Christie's The Secret of Chimneys (thanks for the rec, [livejournal.com profile] silveronthetree!), a book of short stories by Charles deLint (which I think I'm saving for the train this week) and Stephanie Laurens' The Untamed Bride 'cause I'm always up for a little Regency romance. I haven't tried her yet, so we'll see.

I'm also wearing, get ready for it--jeggings. Seriously. I bought a pair to see what all the fuss was about and do you know they're rather comfy? I'm not thin by any stretch of the imagination, but they do rather nice shaping-things to my butt. Who knew? My only quibble is the fact that I couldn't find them in petites so they go halfway down my foot. Oh, well, keeps them warm!

Also, check out this site! I want the Pride and Prejudice sweatshirt and the Hound of the Baskervilles t-shirt. And all of the others, to be honest.

How is everybody else?

Happy Saturday!

So! I'm compiling fics to rec over at [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers and I'm noticing a couple of things about the fics that I enjoy. For example, I tend to like odd pairings and very long stories. A lot of the fics I've saved are chaptered and quite epic. This got me to thinking about my own writing and stories.

I was considering my writing goals for this year and I've finally settled on them. I'm not going to focus too much on word count as I still don't know where I'm going to end up in the next few months. Instead, I'm focusing on research and original fic. Yep. You heard me. I'd like to write more original stuff and so I'm afraid the TCG 'verse is going to be around for a while. I'm also going to try to be more selective about stuff I write, take more time with the ideas, and do some bloody research.

You know how sometimes you read something and just go: "Wow. That was so intelligent. Everything fit together so well." Well, that's what I'm aiming for.

I think. This is of course, liable to change if the wind blows in a certain direction, so we'll see.

Anyway!

Poll Time!

I'd just like to know people's preferences in regards to length and ratings of fic. If there is a type I've forgotten or you'd like to explain your preferences, feel free to comment!

Thank you!

WEDNESDAY!

I'm posting early because work is promising to be busy.

Under the cut I've got a reading meme (from somewhere) and the obligatory Matt Smith loveliness!

I will be the first to say that my mom has issues. And she has not taken me moving to an entirely different country with, let's say, aplomb. However, sometimes she really gets things right.

She sent me a care package that arrived yesterday complete with a sweater, two recent Vanity Fairs (Johnny Depp and Heath Ledger!), a few paperbacks INCLUDING two Jennifer Crusie Harlequins she found after I told her I was getting into her novels! I can never make fun of my mom's extensive romance novel collection after this.

AND

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! I HAVE THIN MINTS, SAMOAS AND TAGALONGS IN MY HOUSE!!!

This fills me with glee. Johnny Depp, Jennifer Cruise and Girl Scout Cookies. My mom is awesome.

And since we're on the subject of romance novels and stuff: [livejournal.com profile] ladykink. It looks like fun!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

I've discovered that I have a default setting; which is curled up on a comfy chair with a book. Whenever it rains, my psyche automatically begins to crave cushions and words.

This is not particularly convenient when I'm at work. Darn it.

My next life I'm coming back as one of my mom's cats. Seriously. They get to laze around on a bay window in Florida and she feeds them the good cat food.
