seren_ccd: (X-Files - First Meeting)
I'm compiling my 30 fics to rec over at [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers. I like the most bizarre pairings. Seriously. If it's unconventional, I am THERE. I also tend to like 'partner' fics. (Hello, X-Files, CSI:NY, In Plain Sight and Law and Order: CI!)

Sadly, I went to find two fics by the same author (one was Dani/Charlie from Life and the other was Lizzie/The Stranger from Dear Frankie) and I believe she's taken all her fic down. I can't for the life of me remember her penname. Bummer. *sadface*

I also had a dream last night in which my theory that watching the X-Files comes in handy. I was in a forest with all those little green bugs from that episode in the first season with the lumberjacks. (Strong, manly men in the peak of their manhood). ANYway, since I had seen the episode I knew exactly what to do. Stay in the light and don't panic.

All in all, a rather cool dream. I'm pretty sure I survived. Go me!

Happy Monday!!!

Shopping was successful! I got boots! Check 'em out. They are so comfy and warm and I love them so much.

I also got a fic! An X-Files fic! It's season one and it's adorable. There are haunted Christmas trees and Mulder meets Scully's Dad. Eeee! Check it out!

Also, I did it again. I left a prompt over at the Sherlock kink meme that I think I want to fill. I think I'm doing it wrong. It's for a Cabin Pressure crossover where Martin meets Molly and they really hit it off.

Here is my usual mish-mash o'stuff for the day.

1. Reasons Why Dana Katherine Scully is a BAMF.

  1. She can defend herself on so many levels: intellectually, spiritually, physically, you name it. Even her crises of faith are done with such grace and strength.

  2. She respects the journey. She will happily disagree with Mulder until the cows fall out of the sky and then even after they do that (The Rain King), but she will not balk at following a trail to see where it leads.

  3. Smart is sexy, people.

  4. She will protect her loved ones to her last breath.

  5. Not only can she recite passages from Moby Dick, but she can tell you that you're looking at a North American P-51 Mustang just by looking at a grainy UNDERWATER image.

  6. Did I mention the fact that smart is sexy?

2. So, I told myself that no way was I going to do another Star Trek Big Bang. It's stressful and time-consuming and (I kind of cringe saying this) not that many people read it. *cringes* That being said, I got the brilliant idea of turning my favorite Agatha Christie novel, The Man in the Brown Suit, into a McCoy/Chapel themed story set in the Star Trek universe. I kind of really want to do this. *facepalm*

3. I reached 1,295 words for my Yuletide story! On that note, which authors do you all admire for their prose?

ETA: 4. I have half written a Sherlock (BBC) fic in which Lestrade and Molly find common ground and go for coffee and then, ahem, more. Am I insane? I'm blaming Rupert Graves being such a silver fox.

Dear lord was it fun to get to work today. Ice all over the place and no grit. I slipped way too many times. Once I did a lovely arabesque-like move and was just happy I didn't take a header into the pavement. Grrr.

In other news, I've written 942 words of a very rough beginning for Yuletide, so I'm happy to be making progress.

In other, other news, in my lead up to actually writing an X-Files story, I am doing two things, watching season three in the evenings when I get home and reading fic. Which leads me to a fic rec!

If you like Stephen King's The Stand and you like Mulder/Scully AND you like long fics: Read this!

Last One Standing. It reads like a Stephen King novel and does use characters from The Stand. Mulder and Scully are awesome and make me smile. It's definitely gory and there are some violent scenes (Stephen King, remember?), but it's epic and very engrossing. If you want to be spoiled about who makes it and who doesn't, let me know.

Happy Monday!

Two things Seren has totally caved on:

1. I now have a tumblr: seren-pen I have no art skills to speak of, so this will primarily consist of me re-blogging other's pretty things. Please tell me if you're over there and I will follow you!

2. I just signed up to [livejournal.com profile] xf_santa. Because I'm watching early Moose and Squirrel and I MISS THEM SO. And because [livejournal.com profile] wendelah1 said it would be fun.

In other news I tried, once again, to watch Aliens 3. And failed. It's truly amazing how it only takes thirty minutes for that film to hit every single one of my 'If you put this in your movie, I will immediately stop watching it' buttons. Never again. As far as I'm concerned, that series ended after Aliens 2.

Anyway:

Happy Wednesday!

So, I'm deliberately not looking at my Big Bang for the next 48 hours in order to approach it later with new eyes and do some editing.

Instead I'm just reading a lot and spending far too much time on tumblr.

You know what's an amazing time-suck? Going to delicious and typing in a favourite pairing and then reading fic and gazing at picspams. I'm currently in a Mulder/Scully mood and there are over 2,000 entries on delicious for them.

I'm thinking a re-watch is in order. I've totally forgotten most of the mytharc stuff. I might skip the cancer-arc though, that seemed to go on for too long.

However, my all time favourite episode is probably Quagmire with Big Blue and the Ahab speech.

I've always wanted a peg-leg - Spoilers )

I, for some reason, don't have any X-Files icons, so Ripley and Hicks will have to do. Woohoo, Aliens!
